If this thing hasn't been converted I would be worried about being able to register it in other states or even re-registereing it in Virginia. However, since it's already here, maybe it'll fly under the radar.

This would mean the VIN is already in the system. I wish I had the VIN to run a CarFax report. It would be a one-of-a-kind car in the US.

I can't afford to buy this right now, but if I could I'd be very concerned about all the ducks being in a row. If the original Italian owner brought it in on a temporary work basis, at some point customs is going to want to know why it didn't leave the country. That would be my biggest reservation. This could really go either way; buy it, register it and never have an issue, or buy it try to register it, get buried in a mountain of red tape and spend a LOT of money trying to get everything right. My understanding is that cars imported temporarily have three options when the time is up: exportation, conversion, or destruction. I'd hate to see somebody buy this car and have to resort to one of those options. If anyone here ends up buying it, please keep us informed as to how it goes.

You should email the guy and find out what the actual status of the paperwork is.

Does this mean you have to import all the parts since it's a euro engine?

If it is titled, most states will honor it. The problem is 1. passing emissions (they can vary state to state) and 2. insurance.

Gray market is a bit of a sketchy deal, but if it has OBDII and a 17-digit vin, you should be okay.

Except in Kalifornia.

The engine was available in the US. Some parts will be special order, but available. For instance, I've ordered the 323ti Sport rear valence a couple times.

From what I've read, the things that are important for the conversions are pretty much the bumpers(they don't have the 5mph rule in Europe) and the guage cluster. This one should only have kilometers on it. Basically it's all just bureaucratic nonsense. The car's emissions and safety are just as good as most and probably better than many cars you can buy here.

I think I am going to hold out for a bit and get and M roady or something. I think two ti's is too much. I want a different BMW. Someone jump on this! It is an awesome deal.

Another thing to keep in mind about this car is that is LOADED and the euro interiors seem to be much nicer that the 318ti.

Well the VIN runs through CarFax.
http://www.carfax.com/phoenix/extern...DfpA6odA%3D%3D
INCONSISTENT ODOMETER READING
Could easily be because the cluster is in KMs, not miles.
But it doesn't list the model.
Interesting car.

Edit: The owner says "There is a VERY good chance it will be sold today"
