Default bilstein sports with h&r race

special thanks to ANDY for the phone calls and that awesome writeup.

after driving around for a while i started hearing some noises coming from both rear sides. it was happening after hitting small bumps and turning. when i got out to check it out i saw some (very little) smoke coming from behind the left rear rim. i drove around some more and the noises stopped. i'm guessing this isn't normal. what could it be? any suggestions would be helpful. hope you enjoy the pics.

not sure about the noise, maybe the shock mount wasn't seated properly and could be loose, check the inside nuts. I may be out to lunch though... what does the sound sound like?

the smoke could be grease on the brake rotor burning off, did you touch it with greasy hands?

I'm glad to hear you got this done, the pics look great.

thanks everyone, i appreciate your comments.

i did touch the rotors with very greasy hands, so i guess your right about the smoke.

the noise is hard to explain. my wife said it sounded like rubbing. i thought it sounded like some type of grinding. i dont know. i am going for my inspection this morning and also an alignment. i will see if the noise is still there and try to better describe it.

Look awesome! What size are those wheels? Hows the ride with the new springs?

what size are your wheels/tires? did you just install the drop springs or were you just swapping struts/shocks? your rear tires look pretty close to the fenders, perhaps you're getting some rubbing?

Fernando,

Looks very good!

I am almost positive from your description seeing the pics that your tires are rubbing on the fender lips and rear quarter lips. Quick test: put some masking tape on the inner lip of the front fender/ rear quarter lips. If they come off, the tires are rubbing. Also verify the profile of the tires for scuffing.
Btw, what 's the tire and wheel size you're running? Width and offset of wheel?

thanks everyone!!

i don't really know what offset means? the wheels are 18x8.5 all around. the tires are falken 235/40

it WAS rubbing the rear fender on both sides. i banged on it a little and it clears now. on the front tires it seemed to rub a bit in the back of the wheel well. my mechanic who did the alignment did some adjustments and it clears now.

stabby, i installed both shocks and springs.

Fernando,

Offset is the distance of the hub mounting surface from the center of the wheel. The higher the offset (ET), the closer it is to the suspension. The lower the ET the closer it is to the fender. For example: your wheels are 8.5" wide and from looking at the pictures they seem to have a 35mm ET. If they had a 40mm ET, they would be closer to the strut (closer to the engine). Upon removing one of your wheels, look at the back surface (usually stamped in one of the spokes) where you'll find a number follwed by ET. This number is the offset.

I hope this helped.

Cheers,

Where exactly are they rubbing? Splash guards or fender lips?

Cheers,

what about offset control arm bushings to push the wheels forward a bit? how much are they rubbing?
