I did spill some oil on the engine a couple times. I suppose I'll just have it let it burn out. I don't want to try and spray it down with something else and make it worse. I'm going to spend some time finishing up the rear end. Since I have to return the rental early in the morning in pittsburgh, I'm not going to have any daylight vid of the car till later . I'll try to get some better shots of the cluster in action before I leave this morning though. Philly, I only had two power wires on the passenger side of the car. . . Perhaps it's an auto thing. Should clean any oil/grease off. If it still smokes, make sure there's no wires or anything resting on it or touching hot parts of the motor. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 07-19-2008, 01:27 PM | #139 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | Congrats! I broke the PS banjo bolt. Pretty tough to try and remove the pieces. I'm going to have to see if there is some alternate solution other than driving without PS. 2. So, I couldn't get one of the e30 half shafts off it's trailing arm due to a stripped collar nut. So, I decided to use a ti one and transfer the inner cv boot of the e30 half shaft to the ti. That held up for all of three minutes. I'm on my way to autozone to borrow their code reader when suddenly the car slows to a stop despite being in gear and me giving it gas. After checing around and hearing some weird noises coming from that halfshaft when I try to drive again, I figure out what happened. So, I'm using AAA to tow the car to Pittsburgh. . . though I'd have to pay extra for the 25 miles over my 100 free. Swapping halfshafts is a 20 minute job that can be done covertly on my street, so I'll likely take care of that by mid next week assuming the place I bought the trailing arm also has e30 half shafts available. | | | 07-20-2008, 05:51 PM | #142 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | Another video - this one has shots of the exterior. . .and was taken during the day minutes before the ill-fated test drive. You have no idea with all the issues and not having my car for almost two months, after I got that baby idling properly, it was like a huge load was removed from my shoulders. I suddenly had a lot more energy despite only getting about 10 hours of sleep over the previous 7 days. Originally both were smoked, then some people decided to hit my car in airport parking lots. The right one was pretty banged up so I replaced it. Once I have positive cash flow again, I'll probably replace the other. | | | 07-21-2008, 05:15 AM | #146 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Round Rock, TX Posts: 399 | Congrats! Labor was free. | | | 07-21-2008, 03:57 PM | #149 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | not bad especially since you didnt have much time to look for good deals and wait for the best deals to pop up! __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 07-22-2008, 04:32 AM | #150 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Pittsburgh, PA Posts: 1,224 | Update: I've bought and swapped in a good half shaft. Need to tweak my ABS speed sensors so that I have working ABS. Drove the car a bit today - learned that I definitely need an auxiliary fan. The engine temp is ok as long as the car stays above 30mph. In stop and go traffic, it heats up pretty quickly unless I'm dumping heat into the car. Even then, that only slows the inevitable. I burned my foot the first time as I was learning this. Also need to swap my sport suspension for some stock 6cyl stuff. Exhaust work will be done in a couple days, hopefully I can have the AC stuff done within a few weeks, reattempt the window fix next month. the car is nice to drive. First and second gets used up so quickly now. It just powers through them. Went to autozone to return stuff and check on CELs. Had 9 (2 repeats) so seven unique ones. I've got ten days to attempt to resolve most of these before I must take my car in for inspections. In all likelihood, I'm going to fail this time around. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
