It's quicker (2.7 turns lock-to-lock) and apparently has great feel, is tighter, etc. (I think Ti racks are 3.1??? someone call me out if I'm wrong) I know M3 racks are variable...and those guys love the feel when they "upgrade" to a Z3 rack (linear steering response)...but I have no idea if the Tis had a variable rack... __________________ She's no longer mine, but I gotta keep the pic Current euro: Black MkIII VW Gti VR6 | | | 07-14-2009, 04:34 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: CORONA, Ca Posts: 123 | Thanks. Hey ppl, is the oil pan on a 97 ti sport attached to the transmission. According to my mechanic the oil pan is attached and thats why labor is like a lil over a grand. Is this true???? __________________ | | | 07-14-2009, 04:37 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | i mean, it has three bolts that go through the transmission, but you don't need to remove the transmission. Doesn't make it any harder. __________________ -Jeff | | | 07-14-2009, 04:47 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: CORONA, Ca Posts: 123 | so my mechanic is just lying then. Cuz he told me its attached and he has to remove the trans to be able to acces my oil pan. SHould i just go to a diff mechanic? __________________ | | | 07-14-2009, 05:06 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Yes. You do have to either drop the front subframe or raise the motor a bit to be able to get the oil pan down. You don't have to remove the transmission, but it would also get lifted up a bit if you lift the motor to get to it. It isn't a super quick job, but 1000$ for labor seems really high. | | | 07-14-2009, 05:07 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | It is possible to remove the oil pan by taking off the trans, he's not lying per se he's just taking that route. The other way to do it involves lifting the engine off it's mounts. The oil pan is a big job no matter how you do it. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 07-14-2009, 05:12 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: CORONA, Ca Posts: 123 | oh. ok thank you. and that applies with any kind of oil pan work such as replacing it. Also the ZF Z3 racks, are they worth the upgrade and if so where can i find them remanufactured/used for a good pirce?? __________________ | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
