I've got a 98 Ti SPORT WITH THE Mtech front bumper. The middle bit of the grille has come away after some twat decided to kick it in, so it either needs replacing (which will require taking the bumper off and I don't have a clue how to do) or meshing or i'm just contemplating buying a new bumper altogether and getting it sprayed and fitted. Are there any standardish looking bumpers that I could get away with not declaring to insurance company? Any pictures? Or otherwise, how hard is it to remove and replace the front bumper? Are there any online guides? | | | 06-08-2006, 11:06 PM | #2 | islander on the mainland Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 286 | Removing the bumper and replacing that piece is fairly simple. You could even change it to the slats if you originally had the mesh... or stick with the mesh. In terms of replacing the bumper entirely, you have a lot of options and you shouldn't have to declare it to your insurance company, but then again, I don't know what your policy is like, so I could be wrong. __________________ moku 1996 318ti Cali Top w/ Downing/Atlanta Supercharger 2003 M3 w/ CSL trunk, splitters, & diffuser | | | 06-08-2006, 11:47 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | To change the mesh grill you do't have to take off the bumper, all you need to do is go from underneath to fix it. | | | 06-08-2006, 11:54 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. Just buy a replacement insert; bavauto.com sells them for $64.95, or you can go straight to the dealership and pick one up. They are easy to install; you just need to get underneath your ti, remove the splash panel, take off the damaged grill insert and clip on the new one; there is no need to remove the entire bumper. __________________ | | | 03-03-2007, 03:23 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | u will need to check that the pins that hold it in are not bust if they are it best to take it off and sikoflex it in he is from uk so best place would be bmw for ur bits __________________ 318TI FOR SALE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION | | | 03-03-2007, 03:27 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | __________________ 318TI FOR SALE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION | | | 03-21-2007, 03:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Beaufort, SC Posts: 298 | if you end up gettin a new bumper i'll happily take the old one off your hands. i have a base ti and i'm looking into installing a m-tech bumper | | | 03-21-2007, 03:41 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | dude, don't get a whole new bumper.. just get this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-9...QQcmdZViewItem I did so about a year and a half ago (not even an OEM part) and it has been just fine till this day (replaced the slates as some - as you say - twat kicked it in as well).. cheers!
