Default Problem with fuse #37.

Car is a 1996...all stock. Last night my instrument panel lights went out. Checked the fuses...#37 was blown. I went to replace it with the red 10A fuse, and as soon as it touched the fuse panel, there was a spark and the fuse was instantly blown. So I just drove it home without instrument panel lights (no biggie.)

Any ideas what the problem is? What should I do?

Thanks,

Phil

Sounds like there's a short somewhere. Have you recently added any new components or dug around inside the dash at all?

I haven't added anything. I haven't even had the hood up since my last oil change....a few months ago.

On my 2/96 car fuse #37 is also 10A and connected to the cluster, left-side rear light, and license plate lighting. I would see what else it's connected to and track down any rotting wires or other possible problems with the other connected components.
