Default M44 vs M42 ECu

Has anybody tried to run a M42 with a M44 ECU?

Seems like if you could adapt the OBDII ecu to the M42 engine it would solve some problems...

I have no answer to your question, but what problems would this solve?

Wow, it's so simple....why did I think of that? Hmmm, lets see the main difference is the AFM vs. MAF but that's not an issue since the intakes are interchangeable.

How many knock sensors does the m42 have? m44s have 2. I would think if you had both motors, you could make the m44 sensors work on the m42 engine. Who has a m42 for sale? I'll try it.

I think not function because, first the m44 engine need the key recognizer, you need to install it too, then the oxigen sensors, the knock sensors, also i think the fuel injectors system are little differents, so that is my opinion

My M42 has the key racognition. The thing is that the M42 ECu is tunable by a LOT of folks where the M42 ecu is the B*&*&*D of the family....

It would allow full boost with a DASC, among other cool things...

I know a few folks have put M3 OBDII engines in 95 TI's so the wiring is doable to the chassis, you would have to either add the second O2 or add one of the 2nd O2 eliminator gadgets out there on the market....

I suspect its possible to change the software in the OBDII ecu to NOT use the key imobiliser. and possibly fuss it around to ignore an extra knock sensor or something like that...

Hey its probubly easier than reverse engineering the M42 ECU....
