I'm thinking of swapping a 1998 M3 3.2L engine into my 95' Club Sport. How easy would this be? Is it worth it? | | | 02-05-2007, 08:32 AM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | If it was easy and worth it then everyone would have one. Easy: NO Worth it: YES You could SuperCharge your Club Sport and have a little over 200HP for $3k in an afternoon if you're handy with a wrench and everything works well. If you snap that plastic coolant line on the back of your engine, pinch a gasket or something, you're looking at a weekend project. Or you could find an M3, Strip it completely of it's drivetrain(engine, tranny, differential, harness and computers) Make a ton of modifications to things such as exhaust, suspension and software, And then fight with the DMV and Smog inspection stations to get it registered among other issues. If you're lucky a week and $5-$7k later you'll push around 260HP. But your car will weigh slightly more. Personally I think it's worth it if you plan on building a car with 400+HP later down the road via FI. Unless you can get a doner M3 for cheap with a motor in good shape, then by all means do it. But I don't recommend trying to piece it together with parts from different cars especially if they're different years. 3.2L's are pretty darn exspensive! But man they sure are pretty. A 2.8L wouldn't be a bad alternative to consider. It might be significantly cheaper, or you could just fork out the dough and buy a DASC for 3 G's and call it "fast enough." | | | 02-05-2007, 03:25 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | Do some searches on Engine Swaps. There is alot of information here about them. I can tell you mine was fairly straight forward, but that was after months of research. If you study hard enough, it can be done. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 02-05-2007, 03:31 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: ipswich Posts: 656 | well the 3.2 evo engine in the uk makes about 320bhp __________________ 318TI FOR SALE MESSAGE ME FOR MORE INFORMATION | | | 02-05-2007, 10:17 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | He is in the US, so a true EVO M3 motor would be super $$ to find. My brother has one in his 95 M3, and it was expensive and difficult, and when the oil pump crapped out, it had to be ordered from Germany. A 95 club sport can take an M50 or S50 more easily than an M52/S52 due to wiring issues. I just put an M50 in my 97, and it is fast. Me likey. Very cheap for me to do. I have less than $1500 in the whole car with the M50 engine, but I got extremely lucky. You will likely pay more. -Paul | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
