It's like a few clicks or ticks every so often. It's not too loud but loud enough to notice it. First time I've heard this. Any suggestions or ideas? | | | 07-30-2011, 08:17 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Check the oil level... __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 07-30-2011, 08:20 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | Just changed it about two weeks ago. Didn't hear it until today. Don't think this is anything major, but don't want it to lead to something, you know? Any noise like that gets to me ;( | | | 07-30-2011, 08:39 PM | #4 | Member Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 85 | Lol jared, your car always seems to be making some kind of noise xD is it a similar noise like last time? (that sound coming from your dashboard) or is this a completely different issue? | | | 07-30-2011, 08:57 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Northampton, UK Posts: 35 | M42 or M44? The exhaust manifold can blow on an M42 causing what sounds like a ticking noise. | | | 07-30-2011, 09:00 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | Different noise David haha. I bought the car five months ago, on the dash I have half the service lights still lit up when you start the car. | | | 07-31-2011, 02:20 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Northampton, UK Posts: 35 | It might be worth doing an oil change. I use 10w 40. | | | 07-31-2011, 02:22 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | i could do that if you think i really should, what's the reason you think it's the oil? | | | 07-31-2011, 02:27 PM | #11 | Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Northampton, UK Posts: 35 | I've heard stories of others making similar noises and an oil change cleared things right up. The service lights can be reset without doing a service so I always get a service done after buying a car, unless there is clear history and receipts that show otherwise. Alternatively it could be a gasket somewhere. You may just have to try a process of elimination. Can you actually pin point where the noise is? | | | 07-31-2011, 02:31 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | haven't been able to pinpoint it, i just know its something in the engine area because when I'm sitting at a light or in the driveway you can hear it tick every so often. i'll have to open the hood up and give a listen. thing is it's not like it makes the sound often. it could sometimes be a few clicks/ticks then nothing of 20-30 seconds. just out of curiosity, is the 15w-50 too much for the TI? | | | 07-31-2011, 02:46 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Northampton, UK Posts: 35 | BMW recommend 10w 40 for the 318is (I have the M42) engine so I would assume it would be the same for the TI. | | | 07-31-2011, 02:51 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | ok thanks for the help | | | 07-31-2011, 02:56 PM | #15 | Member Join Date: Jul 2011 Location: Northampton, UK Posts: 35 | Quite alright mate! If you can, get a video of the noise. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
