Hmm?
Tough choice. I'd go with
1996-1999 BMW 318ti Radiator

I don't see where the overflow would go on the
1991-1999 BMW 318i Radiator - Behr

Get the radiator for the ti specifically since you should have an electric fan mounted to the radiator. This radiator has an integral overflow tank. (the lower picture)

The radiator for the 318i (top picture) is different in that the engine has a fan driven by the water pump. This radiator has a shroud mounted to the radiator and off the side of the shroud is a seprate overflow tank.

Do I need to remove the cooling fan? If I do, I guess you need a special tool or something .

Like this right?

Look at your engine. Is there a fan attached to the water pump as show in figure 6 from the article you referred to?

If so then you wouldn't have an electric fan the answer would be yes to your question.

However if you have an electric fan like most all ti's do, then no special tools are required for the electric fan removal.

I was concerned about not having the right tools for the fan but realized that special tools were not necessary with the radiator fan. I was so happy! It takes about 5 minutes to take the radiator fan and shroud off. Easy money! I have a '96 base model.

Almost forgot, I ordered the radiator from the local parts store and they had a Nissen radiator that comes with the expansion tank already. Very similar to the one pictured above.

Yes no special tools required! Just a metric socket of 10 and 8 I think, a set of pliars, and a flat head. The radiator cost me 175 bones and it was made by BEHR.

No ti's came with engine driven fans, all of them came with electric puller fans.

Check out realoem.com. You can enter the last 7 digits of your VIN number there and then you will have access to all part numbers for everything on your car. Armed with part numbers you can search sites such as AutohausAZ, Pelican Parts, Getbmwparts, etc. and get the best price for your parts. If you are replacing your radiator I suggest buying 2 of the clips on top which secure it in place (part no. 17111723341). You will likely break them removing the radiator.

And there are 3 hoses to your radiator.
And there is an excellent write up on here. Do a search for "cooling system rebuild" and you will see it.
