What year is your car, and what model (base, active, sport) do you have? You must have an option that my car came without. I'm sure it can be removed for cleaning purposes...but perhaps you should confirm that with someone who actually know what it is! Haha. Here are the very simple tools used to clean/polish/finish my engine bay. Rags, lots of rags, two different sized wire brushes, small section of scotchbrite for detail scrubbing, blue magic aluminum polish, and Griott's speed shine. What a wonderful combination! __________________ | | | 08-12-2009, 01:50 AM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Greensboro, NC Posts: 234 | it's just a 98 base. i'd check on real oem but i dont even know what category it would belong to | | | 08-12-2009, 02:15 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Boston, MA Posts: 1,152 | Great job on the engine bay! It looks like new now. All that hard work paid off big time! | | | 08-12-2009, 02:46 AM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Very nice! Want to come up and do mine while the engine is out? Only like 45 minutes from Damascus! I'll let you use the hoist to pull your motor Dunno what that thing is, but my 96 doesn't have it, but the motor I bought (98 IIRC) has the mount on the timing cover for it. Also has a bunch more vacuum lines/canisters that the earlier car doesn't have. Which airport? Hawkins Creamery, Westminster, Gillis Falls, Fredneck? __________________ No more ti. | | | 08-12-2009, 03:00 AM | #22 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | BakeR318, your engine looks really nice. I wish everyone's engine was that clean. It sucks getting greasy when you're just checking fluid levels in the morning or doing something simple. acevedo12, it's your secondary air pump check valve. | | | 08-12-2009, 03:12 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Damascus, Maryland Posts: 434 | Quote: Originally Posted by familytruckster Very nice! The work isn't too bad if you have a bit of patience and a good bit of concentration. Would it be appropriate to keep you in mind for the lift should I ever decide to do a swap? The one on Hawkins Creamery you're thinking of is called Davis Airport. My family used to be very good friends with the owner and operator, Mina. We used to keep the Stinson there, and it moved to Frederick Municipal for a good while, in Hangar 9, then B10. The Chief now resides in Ophelia, VA, where my parents are building a house/hangar on a grass airstrip run by neighbors who also fly. I was hoping that you of all people would check this out. We share the condition known as OCD and I definitely let it run free whilst working in my bay. I admired your work as you polished every little bit on your s54. It, admittedly, was part of what inspired me to do this little project. Props to you, and I really look forward to seeing the final project. You're doing it exactly the way I would. Slowly but surely. EDIT:: You all can refer to me as Andy if you want. Figured it was easier than typing out my username. __________________ Last edited by BakeR318; 08-12-2009 at 03:17 AM. | | | 08-12-2009, 04:13 AM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Yeah! That's it Davis. Friend of my dad's had a plane out there for awhile. One of my friends in high school had his Citabria at frederick-while in high school. Can you say $$$$ Sure, if you need it lemme know. I've only used it twice, and have had it for 4 years... It has been sitting in a barn in Mt.Airy until last week. Ever go to the car show at the Mt.Airy Jimmie Cone? __________________ No more ti. | | | 08-12-2009, 04:17 AM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Damascus, Maryland Posts: 434 | Quote: Originally Posted by familytruckster Yeah! Most of the time I'm working during it, but I work at Rockhill Orchard which sits right on 27, so I see most of the guys that come from Damascus on the day of the car show. You ever take your ti there? __________________ | | | 08-12-2009, 04:22 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | I have never driven my ti I bought it with a blown head gasket. In the process of putting a used engine in. I've taken my wagon there a lot, mostly last year. Big white woodgrain ford with cobra wheels wrapped in r-comps. Haven't had the time to get out this year. __________________ No more ti. | | | 08-12-2009, 05:50 AM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Long Beach area Posts: 1,189 | Acevedo, that's the secondary air pump, here it is on realOEM #11 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...59&hg=11&fg=50 #15 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...58&hg=11&fg=45 EDIT: Should've read all the newer posts before posting myself, but oh well, I found the diagrams for ya __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. I just picked up my new baby a few days ago (95 318ti 100K -- Drove it from Nebraska to CA).. and she's missing some plastics such as the radiator cover.. etc. Here are some picts of my engine. If someone could tell me which plastic pieces I am missing and what their part numbers were, that would be great. My car.. Not my car, but gives you an idea of which ones are obviously needed. Perhaps one of these days I'll be able to post her up on here to show how clean she looks after her thorough bath. Thanks for the help in advance. Erica Last edited by boss23; 10-13-2009 at 10:15 AM.
