Thumbs up moving sunroof switch to center console

i'm lazy and i don't like lifting my arm to open or close the sunroof so i'm planning on moving the button down to the center console on the driver's side window control where the rear window button would go were the Ti a 4 door. however the damn krauts made the front window and sunroof switches different than the rear window switches so the switch i have now doesn't fit in the hole. i think i can go to the junkyard and find the switch in a 92-99 e36 3 series (there are 1000's of them). what im wondering is how difficult is it going to be to run the wiring from the roof down to the center panel. anybody have any suggestions on which route to take?? also my sunroof has automatic open where you press the button all the way and it opens the entire way by itself, however it doesn't have automatic close all the way. WTF? is mine not functioning properly or did they just forget to make it that way. any help in this matter would be greatly greatly appreciated. regards

i really gotta introduce you to ron's website. he's done the exact thing you wanted to do here: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/int...of_switch.html

and in general, http://www.unofficialbmw.com/ronstygar.html

he owns a ti, an m roadster and i think used to have a 328is. not all articles apply to our cars specifically, but there's a good amount of information there.

Great mod, they should have put the switch there in the first place.

I had problems fitting a second sunroof switch in the place your talking about. It's the switch surround that's the wrong shape not the switch, adventually got mine to fit with some gentle filing to the switch surround & fixed it with hot glue from underneath. It works a treat & looks like it was fitted at the factory.Running a wire from the roof switch to the centre consel is easy, just gently pull off the left hand side A-pillar trim & run it down there. It's a bit fiddly to get the trim back on but will clip in with a bit of patience. If you unscrew the sun visor & pop out the vanity light it's easier to get the wire under the headlining to the roof switch.

Your auto open/close function is the same as mine, it's designed like that to stop people decapitating them selves

mod is easy to do, many on this site have done it including myself. all you need is a dremel and you good to go.
