Here is the scoop. My BMW cert mechanic and I have tracked a problem for 2months now on my 98 318ti, msport pkg w/ automatic. I want to avoid the dealership if at all possible. We have traced it down to the ECU and I wish to buy a matching set of everything I need to swap the ECU from ONE m44 to mine. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thanks. | | | 09-24-2009, 09:40 PM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | I just sold mine a couple days ago, but BMW_Hatchback has a set he's been trying to get rid of: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27474 | | | 09-25-2009, 03:33 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Flowery Branch, GA, USA Posts: 97 | thanks jess but its gone already. | | | 09-25-2009, 06:17 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | i got one. complete with two chips and ews. from my automatic ti.. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Buy a dme, drive to the dealership, pay them 120$ and have them align it with EWS and be all set. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 09-30-2009, 02:47 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Flowery Branch, GA, USA Posts: 97 | That's a good idea too. At this point I have a full set of 3 coming this week to slap in the car so this will hopefully fix my misfire problems. If not, I will end up at the dealer for diagostics and repair. Avoiding the dealer was my goal but may be unavoidable and costly. But if it get this gremlin fixed finally after chasing it for 3months, it may be worth it. Thanks for your input, Blue. | | | 10-05-2009, 02:24 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Flowery Branch, GA, USA Posts: 97 | My sincere thanks to all the posters here. Especially Marv17 who sold me his matching ECU, EWS and 2 chips plus his advice. The problem is fixed and I can move on to the minor projects that don't affect the drivability of the car. This forum has taught me a lot about my new hobby and I am thankful for having it and the people that make it what it is. | | | 08-29-2011, 01:35 AM | #10 | Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Flowery Branch, GA, USA Posts: 97 | Patience Paid OFF After almost two years of messing with this, I am selling this set that I bought from Marv. It worked fine but did not fix the stutter problem. While the original set was out, Jess was kind enough to flash it and I just put it in tonight. Yes life caught up with me and it was a low priority. Anyway, the stutter seemed to disappear after one of my fog lamps was smashed by some road debris a couple months ago. On inspection, I found a ton of corrosion and silicon gel inside the connector plugs for the fog lamp, like a failed DIY repair. So both fogs are out, and putting in deletes next week when they come. I am guessing, based on the erratic and inconsistent fault codes that pointed in 15 directions, that there was a short in this fog light that kept sending bad data or surges to the ECU causing misfires. This is not confirmed by any means other than the law of proximate cause. My thanks to the both of you for helping me trouble shoot this problem. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
