hello mate and welcome

i also have a 1.6 ( the shame ) the mods i´d suggest are these,

* cold air induction set up, but a good one. bad ons will loose you power

* tuning chip / remap. this will be the quickest and easiest hp mod u can do

* cam swap, to something sharper .. 272 or 288 degree..

* porting and flowing the head, big money mod this one

* skimming the head, higher compression but not a good idea and also big money

* piston swap, also a big money mod , same result as above 2 realy. very good to combine above 2 and this one

* kompressor / charger unit such as dasc are widely recommended. high initial costs

* engine swap. not that hard depending which unit u choose. and luckily for you, england has no rules on cc displacement conversions so go nuts

but, i´d get the rear drum brakes changed for 318 / 323 ti rear arms WITH DISCS!!!!

hth

I had a 1.6 for a couple of years, same insurance issue. Now i've finished with uni and have a few years of no claims bonus its not a big problem. (try Adrian Flux when you get to you next renewal, I am very happy with them and there are no problems with declaring modifications.)

I've done an engine swap on my car.

Certainly a bit more power

Without being rude (and im really not my 1st compact was a 1.6 an i loved it) dont waste ur money. My insurance went up by 60quid a year when i changed to the ti. Give it up its a 1.6 and ur never gunna get the performance ur looking for...Why even think about changing the engine if u say the insurance is too high..a swapped engine is gunna be more then a factory fitted same engined car insurance wise...The 1.6 is still quick for the size of engine it is but after drivin the Ti...use the cash you'd waste on mods to buy one! And a supercharger??? Who u kidding!! U cant afford the extra few quid on insurance but u can afford £3 to £4000 on a mod??!! Something isnt right there!!
Again like i said im not being rude but if u want a faster car buy one.. the insurance is not as bad as u make out if u shop around..if u got the money to spend on mods get a bigger car to have a bigger base plate to start with...In the end ull be happier and have a faster car...

may i suggest a TTS Elise (Lotus) with weight reduction, supercharged??

you get about 500 hp in a 1400 lb car... if that isn't fast enough, there are always airplanes.

insurance isnt that much of a issue as i have someone working in a insurance company so when it comes to renew it i can sort that out plus right now my insurance is £700 and i was 18 at the time. i havent had the car for that long i bought it in august. if i buy a TI il have to do all the things iv done to this plus i have a street bass set up in my car. i just want my compact to shift a little more because if i compare it to my honda the honda will eat it up lol yes i know the honda is a lighter car. and about the speed thing a skyline r33 should be coming in september . i know someone with a 1.6 compact and they skimmed the head i just want to know is this safe?

If you can keep that on the road for one lap on ANY track, I'd give you a lot of... something. mad props would of course be included.
