My ti's a '98 five speed, original m44, and the throttle seems to have a sort of "catch" in it. When depressing the accellerator, there's a point where the throttle meets resistance. It's similar to the feel of a kick-down switch for a. Auto, but much sooner along the pedal travel (usually around 1/3 WOT). I've traced this to the throttle body, and it seems that it's happening when the upper semi-circular pulley/butterfly valve hits and actuates the lower semi-circular pulley/butterfly valve. Is this normal? Is this likely the spring in the lower butterfly valve? If so, what's my best course of action? Thanks for your help! Please send me a PM describing the fix if you find one. I've dealt with this issue since 2007...would love to have it gone. So, somebody help us! __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 07-31-2012, 04:53 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Pretty sure this is normal and is just a result of having two butterfly valves in the throttle body. Mine definitely does it. I actually like it, gives good feedback for when you get into it and open up the second valve. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 08-03-2012, 07:02 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2012 Location: Upstate South Carolina Posts: 14 | My experience, trying to fix: Yesterday, I took off the intake boot to take a look at the butterfly valves themselves. I used brake cleaner to break up the moderate carbon buildup as best I could, then wiped it out with a paper towel. Repeated this until I thought it was good, then repeated it a few more times. I then used some high quality spray lubricant to oil the hinges, wiping out the excess with a paper towel. I can still feel the point where the butterfly valves meet, but it is now possible to smoothly accelerate from a stop or out of a shift, and it's just a much more positive throttle feel. Hope this helps, teetime! Dave, I absolutely agree that it's nice to have that feedback and feel as you dip into it, but it starts to be sort of detrimental when it interferes with smooth throttle motion at the pedal. | | | 08-03-2012, 10:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | I'll have to give this a try.
