Default anti-theft

Does a '96 Ti have a anti theft system like the newer bimmers do? Meaning that it will let you drive a few blocks but die? Meaning you reset the small computer by disco'ing the batt, wait five mins, reconnect and wait 15. Then it resets and allows for starting, driving etc. Car died on the turn into my street and wont start. Seems like fuel is cut out. Fuel pump maybe? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I had a very similar situation. As soon as I got into the parking lot, my car died. It turns out that the idle control unit needed to be replaced. The tow truck guy had me start the car and it would immediately turn off. We tried giving it gas as soon as the engine strated in neutral and the engine stayed on as long as the throttle was applied. That's why the car died as soon as I got into the parking lot.
