Default only 1 cigarette/ power outlet - how to hardwire more?

i have a splitter with 3 outlets. how is the best way to hard wire it into get power?
when i plug it into the cig lighter, the fit isn't tight and it always dis-connects so i figure hardwiring is the way to go. but what is the best way to do this?
thanks!

I recall someone adding an additional 12v receptacle in the center console.
I have my radar detector 12v adapter mounted below the window switches in the console.

I am adding a USB power port using the AUX IN/USB panel BMW uses in their current models. I just finished an overvoltage cutoff that will stop surges and transients from reaching the device drawing USB power.

You can hardwire to the wires going to that 12v outlet.

The cellular telephone prewiring in a 1996 or later North American 318ti is a good place to get switched and unswitched power for electronics in the center console area. A connector shell and a couple, male 2.5 mm^2 amp contacts, and you're in like Flynn. As of last month, the shell was still available:

Have you tried turning the plug until it feels like it wants to hold?

Here is my first try at the overvoltage cutoff I mentioned yesterday, with its cigarette lighter socket hosting the black power adapter that will power my gizmos:

In the next picture, I have slightly twisted the USB power adapter counter-clockwise so that you can see one of its two side leaf springs:

Look along the right side of the plated lighter socket. Do you see how the socket finger grips the adapter's leaf spring? This is a German designed adapter plugging into a German made lighter socket. They fit like both follow a standard.

I can recommend the socket, BMW p/n 61 34 6 973 037, if you need a naked cigarette lighter socket. It is pretty compact, inexpensive (less than 3 euros / $4), bonds well to MMA adhesive, from all reports is durable, and comes from an OE supplier that has been refining automotive lighter sockets for generations.
