Thanks Sam! My exact rationale after digesting what great advice you all provided.

At the end of the day, Wifie benefits too with lighter wheels for her car.

Default Current thoughts and experience on Track day/Autox Tires

for reference:

Style 39 DS-2 17x7.5 Hankook 235/45-17. 46 lbs

Style 6 Bottlecap 15x7 205/60-15. 35.9 lbs

Style 46 15x6.5 Dunlop 205/50-r15. 33.5 lbs

Black widow spider in my wheel well. 6 grams. Big girl...

I'll weigh my Style 46 16x7 when I get the Toyo's mounted. Minus the Black Widow...

Default Current thoughts and experience on Track day/Autox Tires

So, I ended up with 3 Style 46 16x7s, so I had to come up with a different plan. I put the Toyo's R1Rs on a set of 16x7 Z Stars I took off of my Z3 and will use those.

I've been breaking them in this week. While a smaller tire overall than the Direzzas, they seem to grip much better. The lighter wheel/Tire combo gives a little more Zip out of the M44.

It also dropped the ride height about 1/2". I plan to install the H&R f/r sway bars in this weekend.

It will be good to see how they perform on the drive down and on the track.

Default Current thoughts and experience on Track day/Autox Tires

The Toyo R1Rs performed very well over the three days of hard driving at Bimmerfest in L.A. and the drive down through the coastal California mountains. I will test them out again at a Porsche AutoX club event next weekend.

Could not beat them for the price I got them for. $380. Next set I will go for will either be a wider set of Toyo RA-1s or the Potenza RE-71s. I'll also get a larger tire, so I'm not scraping all the roadkill on the way to the track.

I set the coilovers so I got a nice predictable oversteer to help through the corners. The new H&R sways felt like an improvement, but I had too way too things change to pinpoint what exactly made what difference, but overall the pieces came together to exceed my skill level. I'm working on improving that this season.

Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance!

Cheers!

Black, looks like you were having a lot of fun out there! My son & I have done 2 auto x events so far this season and the ti has been performing well. I have had several comments from other BMW drivers as to how stable the car is looking this year. My son was able to beat another guy in an e36 M3 in the B Street Prepared class in outright time (we run in STX). Tires(Potenza RE71-r) Wheels, and new control arms, bushings, tie rods have helped a lot. Those tires are GREAT! We are now looking for a set of lightweight 17 in wheels because the ones we have are SO HEAVY! and am looking for a bigger rear sway bar. I think if I make those changes I am going to have the car right where I want it! Keep it up & keep us posted! You look like you are having a great time with that ti!

My someday to be track car isn't anywhere near ready to run, but I'd have no problem coming there in support. Is that the one on 11 JUN at the fairgrounds?
