I bought myself a 1995 318ti (black, gray interior, manual) as my college graduation present to myself as I found it with only 30,000 miles on it. I still adore the car 90,000 miles later. I new that it was my "baby" but I had no idea there was such a following until we had a car show at the park where I work and some gentleman asked me why I had not entered my car. Anyway, he later mailed me some magazines and so forth and here I am hoping to communicate with other 318 fans. I have my car at a local place now having a bit of stuff done to it, making use of that tax return. The material around the gear shift had split and they could not find the gray color that I assume was original and instead put a black one in. Any comments? All of the window controls and everything are black and it doesn't look bad, but is it going to stick out like the sore thumb as they say? I lost one of the covers for the area where the fog lights go, passenger side. They ordered one and could only get it in black but that area of the car is more of a dark gray. Any ideas? Also, were the plastic vents for the sunroof original or is that an aftermarket piece. The rubber gasket came out of mine and you have to replace the whole unit. But I am thinking about taking the whole thing off. I am to some extent trying to get the original look. I have even replaced the headliner and all the trim around the windows and doors that had started to age. And replaced some of the plastic trim where the doors close that had started to age. Thanks for any info! | | | 03-27-2008, 03:32 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | not quite sure what you're talking about with the sunroof but welcome aboard and let's see some pictures (dave?)!!! i went to school right up 81 from blacksburg. | | | 03-27-2008, 03:35 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | yea... | | | 03-27-2008, 03:44 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | right on cue! | | | 03-27-2008, 03:52 AM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Virginia Posts: 12 | You guys must have missed the part about it getting some special attention from my BMW guru in Roanoke. As for the sunroof, when I bought the car it has this plastic vent shield on the front of the sunroof, I guess to divert the wind or make it quieter. But someone told me that they thought it was aftermarket and if so I will probably just remove it rather than having to buy the entire assembly just to replace the rubber gasket. | | | 03-27-2008, 03:55 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | haha we are just messing around.
