Buying a Turbo - Help Please!

Hey everyone,

Recently one of my buddies showed me a website where you can find turbochargers for a very reasonable price, since there are used and rebuilt models for sale.

I was wondering if anyone has bought a turbo or any products from their site (used or rebuilt) and if you have, how would you rate them?

Also, i'm pretty new to the whole forced induction phase of cars so if you guys could help me out with exactly what type of turbocharger would fit on my 1995 318ti and what all other parts would I need, aka (intercooler, boost gauge, turbo timer, wiring, etc?) i'd appreciate it!

the depending factor on if a "turbo will fit" or not is the turbo manifold that mounts to the cylinder head. so basically you want a manifold flange with the same bolt pattern as your exhaust manifold(aka header). the main factor on what turbo you need (that bolts on to the manifold) is displacement of your motor. decide on what kind of power curve you are wanting and peak power to make. the more displacement your motor has, the more exhaust gasses it blows out, therefore its able to spool a bigger turbo.

Bump. Roughly what size turbo would spool on a 1.9L M44? I found a good turbo manifold with a "T3 flange (T4, 14b, t25/28 +15)".

if you have a t3 flange, a nice t3/t4 (super 50 intake wheel, stage 3 exhaust and a .48 housing) would be my choice, a lot of my turbo honda buddies use that turbo on their b18's (non v-tec, so around the same motor as the bmw) and they don't suffer from much lag. i know atleast 2 that have run consistant 110-112 mph in the 1/4 with these turbo's, and both are daily driven (one is a pizza delivery vehicle for pizza hut )

You must keep in mind that for all those considering this........that the M44 doesn't get along well with turbos. The M42 however, due to it's stronger internals, will do well with FI.
