Question What does this light mean?

It has come on twice in the past 2 days and I am not sure what it is. I have searched online but have not been able to find any answers. If anyone knows please help me out. Thanks

If my eyes don't deceive me, that's the brake pad wear indicator. Mine was on for months, because I accidently damaged the wire. Check the sensor wires for damage, and check the pads for wear.

Any recommendations on new pads or where to get them? I've seen Pagid and Hawks getting recommended but I am hoping others might be able to help out.

Yep that is the brake pad indicator, sensors are located on the front drivers side tire and the rear passengers side tire. There is only two, one in the front and one in the rear.

If the light came on due to worn pads, you must first replace the pads and either A)replace the sensors ($20ea at the dealer) or B)cut each one of the sensors off, strip the insulation off of the wires and twist them together with a small wire nut or electrical tape and secure them somewhere out of the way. Otherwise the light will remain on since the circuit is open due to a worn through sensor. Also FWIW, keep an eye on your brake pads. You should check those types of things regularly instead of waiting for a light to remind you It is possible that the wire could have gotten damaged if you were working on your suspension recently or if something got tangled up in there. Be sure not to confuse the brake pad wear indicator wires with the ABS wires. The pad sensor wires are the smaller of the two and are located on the drivers side front and the passengers side rear. The sensor just pulls straight out of the back of the caliper.

What kind of driving do you do? Does brake dust bother you?

Brake dust bothers me quite a bit but not if I have to sacrifice performance. I am looking to possibly upgrade or replace my current braking system. I do a lot of city driving during the week and a lot of back road 90 degree turns on the weekends, I always drive fast but I am not into high performance or racing set ups. Hope that helps.

I bought some PBR Ceramics from Bimmer-bum on eBay... waiting for them to come still but I've read good things.

My OEM pads aren't worn, but I've gotten them so hot that they melted onto my rotors so I need higher temp stuff (hence ceramic).

An even better, but more expensive alternative, are Hawk HPS Street pads, but I think they have a lot of dust, and there's another brand of ceramics that I can't remember right now.

It's not spam. I did it and got a free XBOX 360 elite (I have pics too if you are interested). I was offering $15 off the GB for members who did it (since I need referrals) and still do need referrals. Since the GB is already rolling with the stuff paid for already, if we have another one and I run it, I might offer it again.
