Default may have a bent control arm

My car was pretty beat when I got her. I do not think her last couple of owners took care of her very well, or even treated her like a BMW.. but as something to beat the hell out of and then get rid of when things started to go wrong.

I noticed a new problem today:

I need some measurements. I noticed that the Driver's side wheel was further forward than the other. The passengerside is more or less perfectly centred in the wheel well (from front to back anyway) but the Driver's side is somewhere between half and inch and an inch closer to the front of the car.

I also know that if I hit a patch of really bad road, the car will try and jerk right with each bad hit.

So.. how do the wheels look on everyone else's car.. are they centred, or more forward looking?

Wouldn't that forward offset of the wheel effect your turn radius?
