I'm assuming that its a sensor or switch, but I cant find it on realoem...Anybody know anywhere else I can look? I almost ran over the old lady in front of me, I was going 75 on the highway with the cruise on, I was coming up on her, she wouldnt get out of my way (which is normal for VA drivers). I put on the brake to slow down and disengage the cruise control, as soon as I let off the brake the car took off again!!! Luckily I was quick enough to push in the clutch as well as the brake. I figured it may not disengage cruise control, but its out of gear so its not going anywhere. Anyway, the clutch pedal turned off the cruise, so its something with the brake. | | | 02-09-2007, 09:41 PM | #2 | doesn't care about you. Now I'm gonna be really paranoid retrofitting Cruise Control in the Spring. Its not that big of a deal, I just cant use cruise control right now. | | | 02-10-2007, 05:09 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | Definitely check your brake lights. Your switch could be stuck or just plain broken. These are known POSs. What color is your ti? Just wondering if I've seen you around. Mine is the Boston Green one (I know there are at least a dozen) with the license plate TANOSHI (my wife's car, her plate.) I'm usually tooling around the Carytown (I work at Bavarian Motors on Cary) area or on 64 toward C'ville. -Paul | | | 02-10-2007, 06:01 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Regensburg, Germany Posts: 584 | My brake lights arent working either! So I guess its the brake light switch. Paul, Mine is also boston green. I dont remember ever seeing your license plate but I have seen a few green ones around. I need to swing by your shop sometime and check it out. My BMW mechanic is 400 miles away, so I may need one a little closer! If the fuse were blown, the cruise should not work at all. -Paul | | | 02-11-2007, 04:20 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | This happened on my car about two years ago. It was the brake pedal switch... Luckily somebody else was driving the Ti and I was following behind when the switch went out, so I noticed it right away and didn't drive around for awhile with my brake lights not working. | | | 05-07-2007, 08:37 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Detroit, MI Posts: 585 | I can't get the brake light switch out of its place. My car exhibits the same behavior...no brake lights, cruise doesn't quit when I tap the brake. I'm ordering my brake switch now. | | | 10-02-2007, 03:11 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | i replaced mine...the only problem being that you have to spend all of the work time upside-down under the dash...kind of a head-rush follows. __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 10-04-2007, 02:39 AM | #14 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | just ordered my replacement! seems a fairly common issue. $8.48 from autohausaz.com! order $50 and get free shipping (i got some filters while i was at it). btw, i found pelican listed a different part # for the ti and the pic for that part is different. they list part 61318360420 as being for the e30. also, i found breaking the red plastic ring from around the post allowed me to then squeeze the tabs and get the switch out. wasn't easy being upside down and using my head to depress the brake pedal to give me a bit more room to get a pliers in there, but it eventually worked. to sum up, push brake pedal in and hold, push red ring out as far as possible, clamp on with pliers and squeeze/twist until you break the red ring off and get it out of the way, then sqeeze the tabs on the back and the switch comes out, release brake lever (likely with your head) and go get a beer. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 10-04-2007, 03:59 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | Where the hell you been?
