$30 a piece usually, I've heard you can also get ones for a Chevy Blazer a bit cheaper

gee i wonder why too? just get new struts for the hatch. BUT, have someone hold the hatch for you as you change them out. the hatch is heavy and can come down slamming on your head

Stabilus FTW!

I just changed out the original Stabilus struts in my ti last year after a 15 year run. If I can get another 15 years out of the ones I installed, I'd say it was money well spent.

+1 I originally ordered off Bavauto however they are only selling tuffsupport ones even though the part number matches realoem and what was on it. The tuff supports went up too fast and slammed down way to hard. Went to dealership and got the stabilus ones. So much nicer now.

if they're just a couple 6x9s you should be good, I'm assuming you don't have 12" subs mounted in the deck or anything

I was about to order some as well but it seems to stay up now. If they start to go out again ill have to pull out the trusty Louisville slugger to hold it up wile I wait for the new ones in the mail.

Ambient temperature will also affect how these struts work- on a cold day, they are more likely to not work properly because the gas pressure inside has dropped. However, when the weather is warmer and the temperature, and therefore gas pressure, increases, they may work well enough to hold the hatch open. I assume that this is what you are experiencing.

From a safety standpoint, I would still replace them ASAP.

When you remove the old struts, remember that the HATCH IS VERY HEAVY. Make sure not to let it slam without any struts in place as doing so will almost certainly break the rear glass.
