I dont see a shut off valve (#11) for the secondary air pump, as well as the plastic hose which connects it to the pump... see two picture included.

Default Bringing this question back

I am new and I am in the process of fixing up a 96 base.

It looks the same under the hood as the car above. According to the VIN lookup it is an M44 engine with ASC manufactured on 3/1996. I have no secondary air pump or related parts and also there is no controller on the intake boot for the ASC. The ASC switch and light in the instrument cluster works as normal.

I wonder if there were a unique run of M44 engine manufactured during the transition from 95 to 96.

Any enlightenment on my car would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yea, marko's right. And it looks like they plugged the hole with something otherwise you would hear (and smell) your exhaust.
It's emission related. When the engine is cold the secondary airpump pumps fresh air in the exhaust to warm up the cat and compensate for the richer mixture.
Probably the shut off vavle or the secondary air pump broke and bypass it that way.
You might get the check engin light on.
Also you probably hear a laud noise at cold startup that starts about 30 secs after the car starts and lasts about 3 minutes.
I'll take a pix of by bay over the weekend. Could you take one of your driver side (where the pump should be)?
