I just want to do anything I can before I have to give it to the dealership. | | | 04-27-2005, 12:18 AM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: bris Posts: 287 | i use BP Ultimate here in australia and that is 98 octane...i dont even think i can find less than 92 here in australia don't you guys get that in USA? | | | 04-27-2005, 02:42 AM | #19 | Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Posts: 91 | 98 ocatane I had a vaccum leek once, the code if I remember correctly it was 2223. It turned out to be two things: Minor small hole in a tiny hose, major big hose not connected all the way. In the OEM diagram (link) posted my leeks were both at #15. The smaller hose #13 had a crack. Taped it, works. The other connects to 15 but is not pictured. Its big and runs across the engine bay. Just plugged it in all the way. I was having a starting problem, the big hose is part of the low emissions system that returns air when first started. You can here it turn on if you listen. The small hose didnt seem to cause any problems, I noticed it after the other hose was recconected and car was starting/running fine. I've never seen over 93 octane, other than 'race gas'. Im in St. Louis, MO, right in the middle of the country. Whats the 98 octane go for a gallon over there? -Dave 98 117k | | | 04-27-2005, 03:49 AM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: bris Posts: 287 | $1.07 (AUD) per litre. 0.84 (US) 0.26 gallon $3.2 per gallon by my calculations. It all depends on the conversion rate i dont know if i worked it out right. But i honestly notice a difference compared if i use regular fuel. I used regular first 6 months i owned the car, then have been using BP Ultimate for year and a half now. What about Shell you have shell over there right, shell optimax is 98 too. | | | 04-27-2005, 01:35 PM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: N. But most stations I went to only had two choices of fuel, some only one. Here in the states we have had up to 5 different types of fuel, 86, 87, 89, 93, and 94 are standard, anything above that you need to go to the race track to get. | | | 05-24-2005, 08:01 AM | #22 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Vancouver Posts: 11 | A standard tank on a '95 holds 17.5 gallons or 65 litres. As for the thermostat, how long is 'a long time' to heat up and would anyone have any recomendations for a thermostat. Has anyone here ever got their fuel filter replaced and if so has that made any change. I got a 'Stepco' for my car and it is just a fuel addiditive that cleans your fuel filter and my mileage jumped up dramatically but im not sure how long that will last and if maybe i will have to get a new filter. | | | 05-24-2005, 12:14 PM | #23 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: nh Posts: 21 | With the new thermostat. My car reads right in the middle of gauge in about 5 minutes of driving. I consistently get 29mpg with an automatic. Mixed driving on my way to work. | | | 05-24-2005, 01:09 PM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: IDAHO Posts: 134 | 17.5 gallons in our tanks???? hmm i have ran out nearly and it only let me put 14.5 appr. with toping off...... if i knew exactly how much fuel was in my tank at a fill up i could calculate better.. im sure all of us could use that info.. if its 17.5 then , my gas milage is poor /// | | | 05-25-2005, 02:55 AM | #25 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Vancouver Posts: 11 | I, too, was shocked when i heard 17.5 gallons. It could have been that it was a European website where i think the gallons are different than american gallons or it could have been a misprint all together. | | | 05-25-2005, 03:05 AM | #26 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | according to my owner's manual (1996 ti), the fuel tank is "approximately 13.7 gallons (52 liters)" as for "how long is too long" on getting up to operating temp, it will depend on the temp outside, but 10 mins should be reasonable. it usually warms up pretty quickly. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 05-25-2005, 03:33 PM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | im only getting about 22 mpg now the new thermostat is working fine...but combined with me only driving around town in stop and go traffic...and me wanting to be a race car driver, gas mileage has dropped a bit... __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 05-26-2005, 08:23 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Springfield, Va Posts: 164 | I used to get ~350 miles a tank average driving. This was with regular gas, 87 octane. Now I started putting premium in my tank (been 3-4 fillups since I started) and I haven't noticed any difference at all. Kinda sucks...but I think I'll keep doing it as it seems to keep my engine running a bit better. | | | 07-19-2006, 08:53 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Marion, IA Posts: 388 | The car int he US only requires 89 octane AKI (M42). Your book might list it as RON, as mine does, which should be 3 or 4 points higher than AKI. I don't notice a difference in mileage or performance between 87 or 89 AKI octane. I occassionally alternate between premium and regular, or just use mid grade. Now that I notice the regular gets about the same I might just use that. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
