I'm not in health care, but some members of my family are.

Plus, I know the Center for Disease Control tries pretty hard to keep tabs on this stuff.

OK, I am the one responsible for the change in the direction of this thread. I simply asked that members of this forum who live in California respect the existing rights of it's citizens, and vote no on prop. 8.

Look where it has gone... Members who do not live in California are spouting off about sex-ed in schools and other "talking points" that have nothing, I repeat, Nothing to do with the request, nor allow any tolerance or respect of others. Please take your spoon-fed, intolerant, ignorant views back to freerepublic.com or wherever you want. I do not suffer fools gladly...

I will now commence ranting. Skip to the end if you do not want to learn anything...

#1. I went to public school in California. In the 60's. From Kindergarten on. Do not spout your tripe about "graphic descriptions" regarding sex (or gay sex) being taught to kindergardners to me. It simply isn't true. Just more "talking points". Baseless accuasations designed to scare, not educate. If you don't know exactly what is being taught in your childs classroom, then you are doing your child a disservice by being ignorant. Get involved, get educated. Otherwise, shut up.

#2. I taught Sex Education in California Classrooms. So did my Mother (she also has taught in schools around the world) My Father taught Sex Education in the CYA (California Youth Athority, the penal system for youth). Nothing, I repeat, nothing inappropriate was ever taught. My family is deeply rooted in the education field, and we have always felt that when the student is ready for education, they will ask for it. Trust me, at the 5th grade level, students are begging for more information regarding sex, the sexes, and all the differences and variances between people. When I was in 5th grade, I was like a sponge, absorbing all the information I could, wanting more. Sex education was an eye opener to say the least. No bigotry, no misinformation, no lies. Just honest teachers doing their best to diseminate information appropriate to the age of our students.

#3. "This is a choice", "This goes against my churches teachings", "They are wrong, they can change", "They have an agenda to recruit our children, they must be stopped and silenced." If I hear one more ignorant statement from someone who claims to be a "christian", may the heavens open and all the "rightous" ascend, so we can live in peace. Our world may just be a more peaceful place.

#4 More people have been killed and died in "god's name" than for any other reason. And it continues to happen... I think your "Christian God" would be abhorred at your actions. Think about that the next time you spout hate and intolerance masked as "gospel".

#5. I have been on the receiving end of what you call "God's Love", and let me tell you, I still have the scars. Both mental, emotional, and physical. Friends of mine have been beaten and killed by people claiming to be "Christian". Ever hear of a christian sponsered organization called "kill a queer for Christ"? Directly responsible. Fred Phelps and the Westboro Church? Directly responsible. James Dobson and "Focus on the Family"? Directly responsible. It leads me to wonder just who will "Rot in Hell" when the time comes.

#6. Now the Mormon Church has spent millions (no exaggeration), not to mention the millions other "Religous" groups have spent, to try and strip the existing rights of citizens of California. Why? Fear, bigotry, intolerance, and a lack of understanding are the only rationale I can surmise. To what end? I can only guess that they are afraid of education, knowledge, and that their members may open their eyes some day and actually see the "light" of the 21st. century.

/end rant

I understand that ignorance, fear, and intolerance is taught at a young age by people who are "Older and Wiser". I also understand that my lengthy post will probably not change your mind today. But, since I am now "Older and Wiser", maybe someone will learn from me today.

Please go with peace. Good night.

Well said James. BTW, do you think Sarah Palin was successful in teaching her under-aged, pregnant out of wedlock daughter sex ed? Let's get this thread back on topic. Anyone else here think that the McCain campaign is getting a little desperate, lol. National polls are saying that the McCain Campaign is down by 10 points, make sure you put 20 bucks aside for me Maverix

I was watching CNN today as I do everyday and couldn't believe what I heard about Sarah Palin. With all of her talk about stirring things up in Washington, putting an end to unnecessary spending, ebaying her airplane(which was BS), stopping the bridge to nowhere(they still built the road) etc etc, not only was she found guilty of abusing her power as governor, she was also caught collecting per diem while she was at home in Alaska! This is tax payer's dollars folks.

Guess what else she's been caught doing, apparently she has made several business trips for conferences and such in which she has brought her family along for the ride. All on the tax payer! One particular meeting lasted 5hrs and happened to be in New York. Her daughter was flown commercially to NY where she stayed in an exclusive hotel for 5 DAYS, paid for by guess who, the taxpayers!

Now this is going to blow your mind. How much money do you think she spent on clothing for her and her family during this campaign? Not a penny! That's right, the campaign funded her and her family's wardrobe. Guess how much. Really take a guess... Alright, are you ready for this? ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND MOTHER FOCKING DOLLARS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

I'm not making this up. This was on Anderson Cooper 360 this evening. You might be able to find it on AC360.com. This is coming from a woman who claims that she wants reform and to put an end to inappropriate spending.

The McCain campaign criticizes Barak Obama for wanting to raise taxes. Guess what, Joe the plumber won't even be affected by this tax increase. Barak cleared this up in the last debate, but the republicans still keep bitching about it. The tax increase will only be for people who make 250k per year or more. I don't know about you guys, but I know I don't make anywhere near that much. Anyone who does IMO is rich. Why would McCain think it's a bad idea to raise taxes for the rich you ask. Perhaps it has something to do with him and his people's best interest. According to the group Progressive Accountability, McCain owns 10 homes, ranches, condos, and lofts, together worth a combined estimated $13,823,269. It's no wonder that he wants to give tax breaks to businesses and corporations. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Now, the other day Joe Biden made a comment that wasn't meant for the press to hear. His comment was intercepted and went along the lines that after the election, our country will be tested in the form of some sort of international crisis. He made mention of JFK and the Cuban Missile Crisis. However, this can be translated to the economic crisis that is affecting the world today(have you guys been following Wall Street?), we're not the only ones going through tough times right now. McCain's response, he states " I was on the USS Enterprise sitting in a plane during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I had a target. I know what it's like to make a decision." Well John, I happened to be in the Navy too. I was in an F-14D squadron aboard the USS Constellation, CV-64. I know how things work. You sat on your ass in a plane that was never loaded with nuclear ordinance. You didn't have to make a decision as it wasn't your decision to make. It was the president's and thank god he had a clear head and was able to resolve things without going into a nuclear war!

Despite what the republicans want to believe, McCain was/is not a hero. Yes, he was a POW. Yes, maybe he survived the historic fire aboard the USS Foresstal. I respect him for that and what he did for our country. However, IMO that DOES NOT DEFINE A HERO. His daddy was an Admiral, his career in the Navy was basically given to him on a silver platter. While describing one of his THREE experiences crashing planes, he explained that his aircraft was sinking to the bottom of a lake. He goes into detail and says that he knew there was a handle to jettison the canopy but admits to not paying attention to that during flight school. For those who don't know, it's a brightly colored yellow and black striped handle that rests just above the instrument panel at the pilot's 11 o'clock position! You have to remove a safety pin from it during your pre-flight check!

There's a video of the tragic USS Foresstal disaster that McCain claims to have been part of. This video was shown on the news and though it was very poor quality, amongst the fire and smoke covered flightdeck, you could faintly see an A-4 parked on the port side of the deck. They circled an air crewman jumping from the cockpit and running to safety. McCain claims that this was him and he went on to rescue other injured sailors. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but why in the hell didn't he get a medal for it then? Now my question is this, how in the hell does a fcuk-up like McCain, a man who willfully admits to negligence when it comes to reading a manual during flight school, a man who crashed TWO A-1 Skyraiders, and was shot down in an A4E Skyhawk which led to him being captured, a MAVERICK, become a US Senator and a runner up for a Presidential Election? A patriot, yes. A hero, no.

As for Obama's tax increase i don't believe it will affect small business's. If you a small business and making over 250,000 then your pretty good. My dad has a small business himself, last year the company made over 100,000. He's happy with the outcome and whats to make more. I told that if he makes more than 250,000 he might need to pay more taxes. He said that it wouldn't matter he will still be making a lot more than what he's making now. So yea small business don't need to worry about Obama's tax increase,

Here's my two cents for what it's worth...Republicans are all about punishment. They want to imprison people for as long as they can. TX and CA come to mind as far as having the worst and highest capacity prison systems in the country...of course they're huge states but still...and let's not forget FL is the same way. We have the dubious distinction of incarcerating more people than any other "civilized" country in the world...

http://media.www.dailyemerald.com/me...-3250021.shtml

There are many, many Republicans who are making money off of other people's misery...in the way of investments, private prison contracts, etc. President Bush even nominated this guy to be a Federal Judge...

http://www.motherjones.com/washingto...e-justice.html

Now I'll be the first to admit that the harshest laws and punishments were passed during the Clinton Administration...but I also have to consider that they were passed by a Republican congress and Clinton had little veto power. Here in Colorado our incarceration rates skyrocketed under Governor Owens (R) administration. The Parole Board who is appointed by the same Governor was told to ignore state law and not grant anyone discretionary parole. Our prisons here are overcrowded and we are in the process of spending 162M on a 3rd state prison that would be unnecessary if they granted parole to most of the people who are eligible for it. Governor Ritter (D) who was took office in January 2007, has invested only 6M in programs aimed at rehabilitation (AA, NA, pyschotherapy, etc.), but he is touting alternatives to prison sentences because the success rate in community corrections is higher and cost less money. Convicted felons from all over the country are prohibited from voting by...you guessed it...mostly Republicans because studies have shown that if they could vote, they would vote Democratic. People have been trying forever to get their voting rights restored, but have only managed to accomplish that in a couple of states...other states let you vote after you have completed your sentence.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=95833312

So much for the Second Chance Act...you know the one President Bush just extended a few months ago...which does not include restoration of voting rights to felons.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=95833312

And here's my favorite all time story, ironically enough about how Republicans refuse to let felons have their voting rights back...but on the flip side they also still count felons as Legal citizens for districting purposes...how f**cked up is that???

http://www.prisonersofthecensus.org/.../stillcounted/

Here in Colorado, most of our prisons are in rural (read Republican) areas, so the Republicans get to count those legal but not allowed to vote citizens as part of their district...pretty stupid....and what's really scary is that the average US citizens allows this to happen and has no clue what the "justice" system is like until they become involved in it themselves...and sooner or later everyone will become involved in it because we are criminalizing everything!

I'm surprised that they haven't ripped me apart yet, lol. Those are all cold hard facts. Unlike the slanderous propaganda that the republicans have been spreading about Obama.

Also, I know I'm not the only one who thinks that they're using a double standard. Every single one of McCains ads have been negative and over the top. All of the false accusations about Barak have gone by un-retaliated. They've called him everything in the book. From Muslim to Arab, unpatriotic to terrorist, community organizer to socialist. Obama hasn't made one single claim about McCain that was untrue or degrading. No robocalls, no attack ads. The very second that something negative pops up about the republican campaign, they whine and b***h, "The liberal Media is biased against them".

During the last debate, McCain pleaded with Obama for an apology saying that he was deeply hurt. What about all the crap that was said about Barak? And Sarah Palin is virtually off-limits! You can't question anything about her character without them coming back and throwing a tantrum. She can't even answer a question without McCain standing next to her and holding her hand. Katie Couric asked her simple questions such as "what magazines/editorials do you read. Where do you get your information from?" She couldn't even give a straight answer to that. SNL finally caught on to the humor that followed Sarah's botched interviews and made a couple skits. The republicans raised hell! Now it's SNL that's against them too. I guess SNL is working with the "Liberal Media", lol.

Is that the same type of over the top behavior and gestures seen during McCain rallys? Is that as bad as the negative robocalls and attack ads? Tina Fey only imitated her and used Sarah's OWN WORDS in her skits. Personally I thought it was hilarious. Has Sarah Palin been called inexperienced? Has she been called a bad mother? Has she been called anything degrading at all? YOU DON'T NEED TO! She makes herself look like an idiot.

Have you guys noticed that the same words keep popping up during the republican campaign? You here things like "Maverick", "Hero", "Experience", "Socialist", "Liberal Media" etc etc, over and over again. That's their tactic. If they say something enough times, people start to believe it. You hear them chanting USA! USA! USA!, does that mean that the democratic party is anti-American? You hear them saying that we're going to win the war in Iraq and come home with honor instead of defeat. Define "win". Does that mean that we're going end terrorism?

At what point do you consider yourself victorious? The president of Iran said that he doesn't want us in his country, they have enough problems already, lol. Global terrorism HAS INCREASED since we've invaded Iraq! The DOW dropped another 500 points today, lets dump some more money into this war For one, this is money that leaves our economy, NEVER to be returned. Secondly, IT'S BORROWED MONEY! We can't even afford to fight this war.

America needs to be woken up! C'mon McCain supporters, I know you gotta have something to say.

Nothing? I've seen at least 3 people reading this from the "who's online" page. Tell us how Sarah's all about "reigning in spending" and McCain is going to "create jobs" by giving rich people tax breaks. Lets talk about health care. Let's talk about the economy. Lets talk.

Does anyone disagree that McCain has done nothing but send a negative message about Obama? Need proof? First, ask yourself what the difference is between positive and negative. Now it wouldn't quite make sense to say anything positive about your opponent in an election would it? So I think it's safe to say that a positive ad would have to be about yourself, wouldn't it? How many of McCain's ads have been about himself? What about Obama's ads? Let me break it down into forum terms,

Barak Obama = FTW

John McCain = FTL
