They don't want people to freak out when the needle isn't perfectly centered? When I crane my neck over and look at the gauge dead on, the needle is precisely in the middle. The other morning on the way to work, I noticed the '97 seemed like it was taking a long time to get to operating temperature. I drove a good 4 miles before the gauge even got close to middle. Fearing I might have some thermostat issues (I went through this with the M42), on the way home I took it for spin on the freeway. Once I got to freeway speed, the needle dropped down all the way into the blue, signifying a stuck thermostat. Today on the way to work, it went right to the middle and stayed there. Today at lunchtime, I drove it for 8-10 miles, even some freeway, and nothing- needle was at 12 o'clock the entire time. Now I'm wondering if I have a sending unit going out, or the thermostat is intermittently sticking (or maybe both) ??? Anyone ever experience this? | | | 01-28-2012, 01:49 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2011 Location: Philly Posts: 605 | I just changed my sensor and now it's in the middle looking at it straight on. From a driving point of view it looks a bit to the right but that's just the angle | | | 01-28-2012, 06:32 AM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Quote: Originally Posted by slow_ti You know you drive a Ti when you watch the temp gauge more than you watch the road. | http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24372 __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I have had that right before replacing radiatior in the past. | | | 04-01-2012, 06:50 PM | #27 | Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: ASTORIA,QUEENS NYC Posts: 94 | just bleed the system.. is better now.. | | | 04-02-2012, 02:44 PM | #28 | Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Australia Posts: 50 | I'm not sure if this is directly related to the cooling system or not, but I'll give it a go anyway. My temperature needle had never risen above half way (which is probably a good thing). Although it seems to stay on cold (after I've started the engine) for a long time. At times, the temperature needle rises to the centre (optimal), and then suddenly, a few minutes later the needle drops back down to the left (cool) again. As I said, my car (according to the temperature gauge) has never over heated or risen above the centre, but I'm wondering if the needle is accurate? Is this anything I should be worried about? | | | 04-02-2012, 07:20 PM | #29 | Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: ASTORIA,QUEENS NYC Posts: 94 | my coolant is normal level . the gauge is normal but when i hit a lot traffic with not cold weather moves to the right side 3/4 max. and the fan work and going back to normal(center.) any ideas? | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
