I also have a question regarding management. My turbo experience is limited to a Mazda 1.8 DOHC so this field is fairly new to me but why not use a stand alone management system or am I missing something? It would definitely not be a weekend driveway project but it seems to me it would be a lot less hassle. | | | 08-11-2011, 04:36 PM | #49 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by urbanmisfit I for one would definitely be interested. You then retain all factory function and the car handles boost like it had a turbo from the factory | | | 08-11-2011, 05:28 PM | #50 | Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Long Beach CA Posts: 88 | Quote: Originally Posted by xxxJohnBoyxxx A lot less hassle and expense is to flash your OEM DME with turbo code which is already written and tested. They are not very strong but will handle maybe 220hp daily. This is not from experience but from reliable people in the business... | | | 08-12-2011, 03:33 AM | #53 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: NJ Posts: 106 | Quote: Originally Posted by signature sound how would the auto trans hold up to the boost? has anyone tested the limits yet? | Some tips if you're not going to do a tear down and rebuild with performance clutches, etc: 1. Max transmission fluid level out 2. Convert TCU to Euro TCU 3. Add euro S/E/M switch 4. Use sport mode (via S/E/M switch) before engaging boost I'd be interested to know if anyone's run more than 10psi with the 4L30E. __________________ Mods: DASC, NickG Stage II DME software, 30# injectors, RRFPR removed, DISA Simulator, Secondary Air Pump relocated, bypass cooling hose removed, Fogged airbox, Bosch silver sparkplugs (F6DSR), Magnecore sparkplug wires (KV85), SeattleCircuit mpg adjuster circuit; Textar CeramicFusion brake pads; S/E/M auto trans selector with Euro software TCU; Royal Purple trans (MaxATF) & diff fluids; Koni FSD (F&R); Rogue RSMs; Strong Strut; Butt Strut; Bridgestone Fuzion ZR1 225/50/16 on Style 42's; hardtop; Footwell lighting; Interior lighting On/Off switchable; Euro intermittent wipers; Padded LeatherZ arm rests; Sisa Design Cabrio Wind Deflector; | | | 08-12-2011, 03:36 AM | #54 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: Elkhart, IN Posts: 128 | Quote: Originally Posted by Monolith Some tips if you're not going to do a tear down and rebuild with performance clutches, etc: 1. I will soon have a tubular stainless turbo manifold available, it will be available with T3 or T25 flange and with or without a wastegate port. It'll be priced less than the OBX one and will not require any mods to install. | | | 08-22-2011, 02:25 AM | #56 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by angus OK, so for those who might be interested I am going to start small. I'm interested in seeing the final product. Will you offer top mount on the turbo? If so I would buy one to get mine up top...A/C is a must for me so if you do top mount and it won't accept the A/C then I'm out. I think everyone that is looking for this will want it to be a budget build type of deal, but they are still Bimmer owners and will demand quality. I cant wait to see whatever you come up with. Very excited and it sounds like you really know your stuff. Do you have any pics of former projects for examples?? | | | 08-23-2011, 03:19 AM | #58 | Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: VAN Posts: 71 | You guys will see the product soon enough, as far as quality, it'll at least be on par with the OBX - you can search "angus turbo kit" if you like IF the tubular stainless unit sells, I will look at doing a cast manifold.
