I want to buy a second DME/ECU so I can have midnight Tuning Solutions tune it for me and keep my original as a backup. When it comes to buying one on ebay are there certain ones I can only buy such as 96+ and above? Because I believe the 95 and below were all chip based and not sure if my car can run a DME from a 95 and below. Any help is appreciated. | | | 01-30-2013, 03:44 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | You are correct, the DME from a 95 is chip based and OBDI and would not work in your OBDII car. Be sure if you are buying off ebay to get a DME that matches the number code and label color of yours. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Knowing this, I sent in my original. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! I just wanted to keep the original stock and if possible use another one as the aftermarket version. | | | 01-30-2013, 09:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Ottawa Posts: 579 | Only offer EWS delete for 1995 units. 96+ no solution... original DME must be sent for performance flash | | | 01-30-2013, 09:32 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmwconnect Only offer EWS delete for 1995 units. 96+ no solution... original DME must be sent for performance flash | Good to know- I was unaware that there was no EWS delete solution for OBD-II. | | | 02-03-2013, 03:34 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | A 1996 DME is a 667 DME. 97 and up is a 668 DME (firmware update). Make sure you get a 667 with matching EWS and Key chip. I get all my DME's from a guy in South Carolina that owns a Import recker yard and I've never had a issue with him. If you post on BF.c he will usually reply. His email is Behrens or bhenr or something like that... If you look up all post by me over there you will find his email. My user name there is 123456789123456. Also I never pay over $100 for the DME kit shipped to my door... Bought a spare 668 DME, EWS module, and key chips, all from the same 318i that was being parted out. Sent them to Barrie to be tuned. Installed and run for over a year now with no issues. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 02-03-2013, 06:25 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Aug 2012 Location: Arizona Posts: 60 | I have a ECU, EWS, and key chip for 1998 318ti 5 speed. He go's by other user names such as Revlimit and Hakentt on other forums and causes a lot of trouble. Do not buy any flashes or anything period from this guy.
