Will there be space between the bumper and the rear wheel? I know that there have to be made some piping and a new holder for the silencer itself. The reason for wanting to use a M3 silencer is that almost all sports exhaust are noisy. I just want to have the deeper sound that comes from the M3 silencer and be sure that the stock 323Ti silencer will not be the limiting factor for slightly tuned engine. Anybody that knows? | | | 08-11-2011, 07:32 AM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | I'm pretty sure that the M3 rear section has a dual inlet while the 323ti only has a single inlet. Besides that, you'd have to shorten it to make it fit. A common upgrade for 323 guys is to install an M3 MID section(catalytic converters). This will give you a little bump in horse power and they bolt right up with no modifications. So in short, an M3 silencer will need to be modified to fit and if you're going to do that, then you should upgrade to an M3 midsection as well. | | | 08-11-2011, 01:24 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | M3 mid section is an excellent idea. The muffler section will require several modifications to work. Piping needs to be shortened Muffler will need to have a couple dents installed (big hammer works best) to clear. Rear bumper will need to be modified to go from one outlet to two. __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 08-13-2011, 02:58 PM | #4 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Quote: Originally Posted by Westkite I just want to have the deeper sound that comes from the M3 silencer | I suspect that a bigger factor in the quality of the sound produced is the M3 engine? __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! Its not real hard just takes fiddling to get everything to fit back together. I'd probably stick to a single tail pipe just because the 4 cyl is going to get buzzy with a twin pipe modded stock unit. On the other hand the E46 muffler has a valve in one of the tail pipes so its quiet at idle and opens up when you hit the gas. (At least mine does...) Has a nice grumble when you step on it hard. Looking through the muffler with a flashlight it looks like the normal pipe is a baffled pipe and the valved pipe is more like a typical glasspack. It has a nice growl when the secondary pipe opens...
