Any advice for that? We really don't want to remove the cable from off of ebrake handle itself. Picture of completely destroyed bushing for attention. Parts are piling up. This is by far the most ambitious overhaul I've attempted. Also can you spot the destroyed Raceland spring? Don't buy Racelands kids... Here's the cars resting spot for the next week. It's in good company while I plug away on little bits. | | | 03-07-2016, 10:02 PM | #212 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bwwaaaa It's in good company while I plug away on little bits. | A fan of British engineering, I see... I believe the roadster is a Triumph TR-3. There's also a Spitfire tucked away in the corner. | | | 03-11-2016, 06:29 AM | #215 | Member Join Date: Aug 2015 Location: Arizona Posts: 99 | I'm sorry for the constant posts, but I've been up to a lot lately haha. Rear subframe is finally out. The driver's side subframe bolt was frozen completely and we had to cut it out. Hate doing things that way but there really wasn't any other choice at this point. Then we broke down the rear subframe and burned out the bushings. Tomorrow is clean up all the parts day, and hopefully we'll get some bushings pressed in. | | | 03-11-2016, 06:54 AM | #216 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Don't worry about the posts. I got all the brake stuff for just over 500$. Time to put it on and take it for safety and emissions. | | | 03-13-2016, 09:12 PM | #218 | Member Join Date: Aug 2015 Location: Arizona Posts: 99 | Quote: Originally Posted by BlackBMWs Don't worry about the posts. Got all the bushings pressed in, wasn't too difficult but I did have to make use of someone's hydraulic press to get everything in right. AKG bushing out, Condor Speed Shop bushing in on the differential. The AKG came out in one piece with no issues (given it was practically new) so I'll either sell it or save it for my E30. The trailing arm bushings were the biggest pain out of everything. We finally used a method that required welding a nub on so a 36mm socket wouldn't move, used a c clamp to press a bolt/nut through, and blasted it with a torch to heat up the inside. I grounded off the particularly chewed up portions of the subframe, and sprayed it with a paint that should keep it from rusting any more. I did something similar for the TA, although only in the areas that we brought it down to bare metal for sanding. Currently I'm waiting on my coilovers and E30 axles. I'm picking them up from a guy locally, just haven't been able to make it out his way. Still need to install the engine/transmission mounts, fuel filter and steering wheel. Getting there slowly, really miss driving this car. | | | 03-13-2016, 09:40 PM | #219 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | I like the updates, it motivates me to get off my lazy butt and do the same! Fortunately (as of last night) I think I've finally sourced the last parts I need. Picked up a set of new-ish K Sport coilovers and E30 axles from a guy parting out his ti locally. Same guy I bought the e28 diff from, never occurred to me initially to see if he had the axle setup. K Sports have 0 miles on them as he bolted them to his ti that was undergoing a swap, but somehow the top rubber bushing got torn. I'm going to get a hold of K Sport today and see what we can do about that. But it was too good a deal to pass on this suspension. Axles are also brand new, so it worked out well. | | | 03-19-2016, 07:11 PM | #221 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Finally took care of the cooling system- I knew I was on borrowed time anyway, but when the water flange in the back of the head developed a slow leak, it was time. It basically disintegrated after removal. *whew*. Replaced all hoses and plastic in the cooling system; water pump; and finally go around to removing a fair amount of the plastic in the cooling system as well: Also replaced a leaky timing cover seal and all of the chain guides and tensioner spring. Amazing what a difference it makes as far as how tight the motor feels now- no more valve noise/chain slop. __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 03-20-2016, 06:32 AM | #222 | Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Denver, CO Posts: 90 | New shoes for the style 5s RC090, with coilovers back on to eliminate the front fender gap. I didn't like how the front end had huge gaps with the sport struts. If anyone has an RC040 rim for sale, HMU! | | | 03-20-2016, 08:30 AM | #223 | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2015 Location: Duluth, MN Posts: 20 | Finally got around to redoing the rear end on my Ti. I tried first to remove the rear subframe bushing using the diy removal tool that's been posted on bimmerforms iirc. This ended up not working so I ended up pulling the whole rear subframe and burned them out I then installed some AKG poly Street/ race bushings and my small case Ti LSD. Tomorrow swap on my H&R race springs and finish putting the rear end back together. Today I swung by the garage to plug away on some stuff. We hit a snag after lifting the subframe into the car. Turns out the two nuts I took off for the subframe are totally threadless now. Wish I noticed before position the subframe, now it's sitting on two jacks until I can get those in. We flipped the subframe bushings over, turns out I put them in upside down. Fortunately this is fixable with Condor bushings. Here's the whole subframe together. E28 M5 diff, E30 axles, K Sport suspension, Condor Speed Shop bushings all the way around. I then went to do the engine mounts. Annoyingly the engine mount arms seemed to have given up. I found the passenger side sheered. So now I need to replace those. This is week three of daily driving my E30, not sure I can keep that up much longer. The ti will be great when it's done, it's just been frustrating having to replace so much that was horribly broken. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
