I have a 97 318ti just put rebuilt 1.9 in and plan on DASC soon. But i really need one more gear. Mine is a standard 5 speed and at 80mph im around 3700 rpm. With the DASC upgrade( which im looking for a known good used one) my concern is not having enough gear. Will a M3 style 6 speed bolt up to 1.9L? Is there driveshaft length issues? Is diff changing easier? I just bought this from a customer because he drove it in the red too long after the coolant fitting on the rear of the head blew!!!! Duh...anyways he sold it to me for 1500. This car is a mint one "old person" owner and garaged in winter. Any help With this thread and any other good ideas about upgrades and whom and where i can purchase stuff would be greatly apperciated. I must say i love driving this car. German engineering is all i have to say!!!! | | | 03-18-2008, 02:14 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | think the final drive ratio of the euro m3 tranny ($$$) is still 1:1 so rpm on hwy won't change. better to get a 3.25 lsd from an e30 or 3.15 lsd from a 2.8 z3. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 03-18-2008, 02:49 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | yeah i would go the changing the diff route it is in fact a much cheaper route! and welcome to the site. post up some pictures of your car when you get a chance! __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 03-19-2008, 01:29 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: iowa Posts: 79 | Yeah thanks guys.
