good luck with the turbo about 9out of ten people will tell you that turboing an m42 is a waste of money or its stupid and its better to put a 6 cylinder engine in if you want more power but it you wanna take the time to do the research good luck.

let me just say that after you get the manifold and you'll probly get a turbo off ebay from a volvo or something the real problem it tellingyour ecu how much fuel to spray some people just put bigger injectors or a piggy back fuel monitering system. like i said its a lot of stuff good luck

yeah thats what ive come to find out through my research, but the turbo sound and feel are callin my name. the most beautiful sound in the automotive world if you ask me. and the six is not an option for me. like i said i have a 2002 not an e36, so my car cant handle the torque of that motor, and the 02 is known for its handling and a turbo m42 gives me power and keeps the balance for handling! but thanks for the welcome!!!

An M42/44 with a DASC would probably be a good option too since its plenty powerful and alot simpler than a turbo setup. Though Ive been informed recently that they stopped making them. =(

yeah the more i research it the more i consider it! lol. makes me sad cuz i love the turbo so much but i might end up goin the supercharger way. but i have heard the same about the DASC being done for, but maybe i can find a used one.....or, i dont know a whole lot about supercharging but i do know that it uses an eaton m62 supercharger which is a pretty common supercharger for today cobalt, G6, ion etc. and might possibly(havent completely researched this yet) be what was used on the supercharged 3800 GM cars (read: GTP Grand Prix, Bonnevile), and if possible i could maybe make my own "downing-atlanta kit", but idk that much about supercharger so idk if this is possible, so any help would be great! i have inquired with DustenT about it b/c he seems to know what hes doing, but he has yet to respond but hopefully he will soon! any other help would be great though!!!

Best of luck with the project, have you consider doing an M2? Aka S14 and 2002? These are very common now. I purchased a Pete McHenry rebuilt S14 from a 2002faq member that stopped his conversion after his wife gave him the ultimatum.

It's going in my E30 M3 this winter after I go throu it and make sure it's fine.

boosting an M42 is much more manageable than boosting and tuning an m44. M44 is a nightmare for any major mod aside from the DASC. There are some a few kits going around for the E30 M42s, but its all about try before the bye

haha thanks. i just got done asking about it. thanks though. ive seen just motors frieght at $150. so im thinkin maybe 250ish? still 800 wouldnt be bad at all for everything complete considering ebay will set you back 2000 for just the motor, although it is from an e36. i have replied though and hopefully he will be willing to ship!!!
