I would think 15-20hp is possible or even more if you degree the cams correctly which are degreed for a smooth idle not all out performance... I'm still using my original DME OBDII with modified code. It had done well so I don't think I'm going to need a stand-alone for my car.. | | | 08-11-2009, 04:03 PM | #18 | Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: New Orleans Posts: 68 | Quote: And BTW, my motor is chipped with a Dinan chip and I love it! I can take it all the way up past 7 with full power at every gear! If def makes a very noticable difference in performance in my opinion. I'll prob. get a tomato thrown at my dome, but I've heard it can increase HP by as much as 20. I would say get one, but get one that has a trusted name. Or just have Johnboy drop a turbo in. good luck! | How many miles does your car have? My car is pushing 198k and I don't know if its to healthy...but if yours is close to that I'll consider. | | | 08-11-2009, 04:53 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Maryland, USA Posts: 678 | Mines got 215, just had it chipped. Retired that engine at 173,000. Other than some abs asc+t issues, the motor runs very strong. Thanks guys for all your input. | Fortunately, When I purchased my ti it was already installed, with a Dinan CAI and freeflow exhuast. I got lucky. As far as I know you must purchase the chip from a dealer and have them reprogram your ECM with the specialized software as stated on the site. I have seen "Dinan" chips and others on craigslist for around $100. you might have success there. If you go that route it might be wise to have a local bavarian autoshop install the chip. Any shop will prob charge a bit for labor.(its a given) If you have the money and want to do it, I dont think you would be disappointed. Please let us know how it turns out! __________________ 1998'SportR.I.P. 1995 Sport AlpineIII | | | 08-13-2009, 12:53 PM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by familytruckster More than likely it reflashes the current ECU, you have to have the special equipement to do that. | The special equipment is $40 if you know what your looking for and know how to use it.
