It's a 3 speed auto so it suffers from the dead stop. But anywhere over 30mph I LOVE the 280, it pulls so nice well past the 85mph speedo. Our cars through 1st and 2nd gear are pretty quick I've found, especially if you know how to launch and shift well. __________________ Vince Carknard 1995 318ti Active Hellrot, 16" 5 spoke, "Fogged" airbox mod, Stromung exhaust, Bilstein Sports, BMW sport springs, 3.73lsd, others... | | | 10-11-2004, 02:55 AM | #34 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Tyler, TX Posts: 1,022 | well, my old 280ZX would slaughter the ti, but I also had a 5 spd, plus some other goodies istols: | | | 10-22-2004, 06:31 PM | #35 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Tracy, California Posts: 473 | Well, I raced a honda civic hatchback and beat the guy pretty bad. Afterwards, the guy followed me to ask me what do I have in my engine. I have a cold air intake and a supresprint exhaust. He had an intake, performance exhaust and a performance chip. It felt good! __________________ 1989 E30 325is 5s Coupe Zinnoberrot 1991 E30 325i Auto Coupe Schwartz 1991 E30 325is 5s Coupe Hellrot 1995 318ti E36 Alpine White III DASC (RIP) 1996 328i 4Dr Artic Silver (RIP) 1999 M3 Estoril Blue Metallic RMS Vortech SC 2001 325i E46 Alpine White - Sports Package (SOLD) 2005 E46 M3 Coupe SMG | | | 10-22-2004, 10:34 PM | #36 | Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: PA Posts: 78 | I raced a newer VW GTI Im not sure if it was a 1.8Turbo or a VR6 but I was able to kill it off the line and to the next traffic light that was about 3 blocks away. I also drive on the PA turnpike a lot and every now and then I run into a few M3 and we cruise at about 110-115 mph for a good distance until one of slows down. | | | 10-23-2004, 03:44 AM | #37 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Tracy, California Posts: 473 | It probably was a 1.8 Turbo. VR6's are pretty fast. That's cool still. What do you have in your engine? __________________ 1989 E30 325is 5s Coupe Zinnoberrot 1991 E30 325i Auto Coupe Schwartz 1991 E30 325is 5s Coupe Hellrot 1995 318ti E36 Alpine White III DASC (RIP) 1996 328i 4Dr Artic Silver (RIP) 1999 M3 Estoril Blue Metallic RMS Vortech SC 2001 325i E46 Alpine White - Sports Package (SOLD) 2005 E46 M3 Coupe SMG | | | 10-23-2004, 12:59 PM | #38 | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Location: Elk Grove, CA Posts: 5 | stock comparison... According to Edmunds specs (US): 2003 Civic EX 1.7L 2555 lbs. 127 hp 114 tq 1999 Civic SI 1.6L 2601 lbs. 160 hp 111 tq 1999 318ti 1.9L 2778 lbs. 138 hp 133 tq If you calculate out the weight/power ratios for each, the '03 Civic and 318ti are about equal with the 318 having a bit better weight/torque ratio. (Since I used weight/power instead of power/weight the lower # would be better) The SI's weight/hp ratio is much better than the 318's, though the 318 does have a better weight/torque ratio than the SI does, but the advantage isn't as large as the SI's. What's good about asian imports is they seem to be able to get much more hp out of a smaller amount of liters. They generally don't get much more torque though. | | | 10-24-2004, 06:09 AM | #39 | Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: PA Posts: 78 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mendi3 It probably was a 1.8 Turbo.
