PICTURES Has anyone ever replaced the trim that's attached to the edge of the rear window? Outside of my red line in picture #1. The forward-most (vertical) side touches the door when the door closes. Mine's cracked and torn and I'd like to replace it. I have black electrical tape holding it together for now It seems like it's glued to the window, but I really haven't fiddled with it at all. --- I was looking for the piece on realoem.com, but I'm not even sure I found the right one. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...47&hg=51&fg=05 Part #12? Or would that be the inner weatherstripping/gasket? | | | 06-13-2006, 07:04 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | | | | 06-13-2006, 07:13 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. It looks like zero fun to replace this. 12 EDGE PROTECTION LEFT 1 51728146765 $41.85 | | | 06-13-2006, 03:45 PM | #6 | doesn't care about you. I'll do a KB article, unless someone beats me to it. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 06-13-2006, 03:46 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Athens, Ohio Posts: 121 | I've got the exact same problem and have been wondering this as well. Mine's still intact and I'm thinking about trying to see if I can do a good enough job tacking it back together using some 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I think if I lay it on really thin, it should be relatively transparent. That gunk is good stuff so I'm hoping it might work. Tired of seeing that thing flapping in the wind making me look all ghetto. | | | 06-13-2006, 03:54 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT Thanks!! I need to replace all the weather stripping and rubber trim around windows. There are a couple of gaps in it on the bottom of the windshield and the rest are just dry rotting or something. I'm almost due for a new windshield as well. 2" crack under the mirror mount. __________________ I'm back with a different 95 ti | | | 06-14-2006, 09:13 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | I tinkered around with it today, and it's stuck to the window pretty strongly. I wonder if some heat would do the trick? I'm gonna try a hairdryer this evening and see if it loosens it at all. EDIT: I tried the hairdryer, but nothing. The thing was just too weak. | | | 06-30-2007, 04:59 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Just curious if anyone ever got around to fixing their problem, mine is looking pretty sad as well __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . I will order the "edge protector" and take them to a auto glass shop for installation. I am not sure if the labor would be too expensive, but if it's like $100 to replace both windows, then I think it's OK. __________________ 1998 Hellrot sport 318ti 2005 Jet Black 545i SMG 2006 Honda Odyssey (for kids and wives) | | | 07-05-2007, 11:57 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Did anyone order the new parts? I'm guessing that this is just something you want to cut off. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 07-10-2007, 03:25 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | I haven't specifically looked at it...but i know most of the seals like that in the x5/z4s etc just kinda pop in... for those type of seals we usually have a spray bottle of soapy water and spray the channel the seal sits in and spray the seal a little bit, and pop it in...then you can slide it a little and adjust it some if you need to...wipe off any extra soapy water and you are done. but take NOTE....i havent looked at this on my TI at all so it could be different... it would also be benefitial to look at the new part if you already have it... i would imagine that if you have the new part....and you cut the old part out, youd be able to see how it fits properly __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 07-10-2007, 03:50 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Seattle, WA Posts: 402 | It looks like the window might come with that rubber trim on it, since it seems to be such an integral piece of the fly window glass. Either that, or it's adhesive tape based. It's certainly married to the glass extremely well. Mine's getting that dog ear of rubber hanging down as well on the driver's side. __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
