Default Anyone replaced this trim? Rear Window. PICTURES

Has anyone ever replaced the trim that's attached to the edge of the rear window? Outside of my red line in picture #1. The forward-most (vertical) side touches the door when the door closes. Mine's cracked and torn and I'd like to replace it. I have black electrical tape holding it together for now It seems like it's glued to the window, but I really haven't fiddled with it at all.

I was looking for the piece on realoem.com, but I'm not even sure I found the right one. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...47&hg=51&fg=05 Part #12? Or would that be the inner weatherstripping/gasket?

Funny, I was just detailing my car today and noticed how worn & faded my window trim looks.

Here's the part number from Real OEM. It looks like zero fun to replace this.

Thanks!!

I'll get these ordered sometime this summer yet. I'll do a KB article, unless someone beats me to it.

I've got the exact same problem and have been wondering this as well. Mine's still intact and I'm thinking about trying to see if I can do a good enough job tacking it back together using some 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I think if I lay it on really thin, it should be relatively transparent. That gunk is good stuff so I'm hoping it might work. Tired of seeing that thing flapping in the wind making me look all ghetto.

There's a different part number for the right side if you need that too.

You guys got it easy. I need to replace all the weather stripping and rubber trim around windows. There are a couple of gaps in it on the bottom of the windshield and the rest are just dry rotting or something. I'm almost due for a new windshield as well. 2" crack under the mirror mount.

I tinkered around with it today, and it's stuck to the window pretty strongly. I wonder if some heat would do the trick? I'm gonna try a hairdryer this evening and see if it loosens it at all.

EDIT: I tried the hairdryer, but nothing. The thing was just too weak.

Mine is trashed as well. I will order the "edge protector" and take them to a auto glass shop for installation. I am not sure if the labor would be too expensive, but if it's like $100 to replace both windows, then I think it's OK.

Did anyone order the new parts? I'm guessing that this is just something you want to cut off.

I haven't specifically looked at it...but i know most of the seals like that in the x5/z4s etc just kinda pop in...

for those type of seals we usually have a spray bottle of soapy water and spray the channel the seal sits in and spray the seal a little bit, and pop it in...then you can slide it a little and adjust it some if you need to...wipe off any extra soapy water and you are done.

but take NOTE....i havent looked at this on my TI at all so it could be different...

it would also be benefitial to look at the new part if you already have it... i would imagine that if you have the new part....and you cut the old part out, youd be able to see how it fits properly

It looks like the window might come with that rubber trim on it, since it seems to be such an integral piece of the fly window glass. Either that, or it's adhesive tape based. It's certainly married to the glass extremely well. Mine's getting that dog ear of rubber hanging down as well on the driver's side.
