Any links, part #'s that anyone can point me to? Thanks ~ | | | 08-08-2010, 09:09 PM | #2 | Member Join Date: Jun 2010 Location: Austin, TX Posts: 47 | Anyone? I've been dealing with them for years. If you don't get them, call a different number and ask where Jim is at or someone that can help you. Shipping same day as order, $22.50 / pulley. Best number to call him on is 770-457-2692. | | | 08-12-2010, 09:03 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: oregon Posts: 83 | Those pulleys are ****ing garbage. My setup uses one of them and it started squealing within 20 miles. I replaced it with a spare one and now that one squeaks too. | | | 08-12-2010, 09:19 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Mine were great 30,000 with no issues. Maybe you had them installed wrong or they had debres getting in them...There is a washer that needs to be behind them or they will fail quick. Not picking at you just stating my experience. | | | 08-27-2010, 09:47 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: CA Posts: 95 | I also ordered the 2 "red" pulleys from Jim at DA... for spare's, but I'd also like to find some more robust pulleys as well. Maybe something that's not made of composite? Please post if you got something~ Thanks! -Joe Last edited by JP422; 09-02-2010 at 01:08 AM. | | | 09-02-2010, 12:58 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Oceanside, CA Posts: 421 | I've had the same problems with my Z3 with the pulley squeaking soon after installing them. The problem is a combination of poor bearing used by Fennel Drive and the pulley spinning a bit too fast... IIRC given the ratio about 5500RPM the pulley spins above the limit for the bearing (15K RPM): the room constraint I guess didn't allow Downing to go with a slightly bigger idler (like the one BMW used for the tensioner). Fennel Drive used some ****ty a$$ bearings: the seal fails quickly and allow dirt to enter the bearing and damages the race. Eventually it will seize... The bearing in the idler is a standard size (6203-2RSR) and the idler can be easily disassembled. Unfortunately as you push out the bearing the housing deforms and the new bearing won't sit tight anymore. At one point I've almost had a local machine shop manufacturing a idler out of a block of aluminum to make it serviceable with quality SKF or FAG bearing and be able to go a tad bigger on the idler to slow it down. I still have the draws of the idler if anyone want to machine them out: http://www.mediafire.com/?y5nnwxum2jn __________________ 2003 Z4 2.5i 2002 Ducati Monster S4 | | | 09-02-2010, 01:23 AM | #10 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: CA Posts: 95 | Nice, I just saw your drawings. What bearing specifically do you recommend? I might be able to source out a machinist for this. Also is the roller diameter (64mm) in the drawing same as stock? or is this your bigger one? Thanks!` -Joe | | | 04-29-2013, 05:29 AM | #11 | Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Florida Posts: 90 | Anybody ever get around to machining some idler pulleys? May I ask how much it cost to make them? -Joe | | | 04-29-2013, 09:31 PM | #14 | Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Florida Posts: 90 | Yes yours are just what I'm looking for but your guy won't contact me! So I'm probably going to have some fabed up locally. Would be nice if I could have a few sets made if there are interested parties interested in paying a little more to have serviceable pulleys that will last longer. You replace the bearing instead of the same cheap pulley!
