SO i have the itbs from dbilas installed on my M42 318ti. Cool. But the 2.5" dia silicon connection doesn't make the bend required to connect the MAF. I can't be the first one with this issue. I would prefer to use the stock air box. Thus far, nothing has been able to be flexible enough so i need to find something more fitted. Any suggestions? | | | 05-16-2017, 03:26 AM | #2 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | You can get generic silicone hose elbows at 45 and 90 degrees. I got a blue one for my Land Rover because the stock one was several hundred dollars. The eBay (2" I think) 90 degree elbow was maybe $30? Anyway, it was cheap. You could also try truck radiator hose. That gets pretty large and can have all sorts of bends and twists. | | | 05-21-2017, 03:42 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | Still working through this sadly. I might just get a 2.5" exhaust J bend and cut and make a piece, rotate and weld a together works, then just use couplers at the ends. Mostly. | | | 05-21-2017, 06:28 PM | #4 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | What's wrong with silicone or radiator hose? Much easier to work with... I made a snorkel for my old Land Rover with pvc pipe. That worked well too if the diameter is right. | | | 05-21-2017, 08:52 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | | | | 05-21-2017, 08:53 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | so that is a video of the car "running". there is a weird hollow knocking noise occasionally. I'm pretty sure the wires are all correct (trying to verify i don't have the cam and crank sensor plug switch since my harness lacks that plastic holder. | | | 05-21-2017, 11:57 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | OKAY so after poking a bit. all the wires are correct. everything is tight. The one thing i think this might be is knock from lean condition (maybe). the M42 injectors are randomly girthy and didnt fit the manifold so i acquire some 6 cylinder M5# whatever injectors #0280150415 which i just looked up to be 15.2 lb/hr. the stock injectors are supposedly 20.X lb/hr. | | | 05-22-2017, 03:34 AM | #8 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! That needs to be sorted. | | | 05-22-2017, 03:46 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: US Posts: 315 | Those appear to be green tops, which from part number are 18lbs. If you need larger there are pink tops which fit and are 21.5lbs. The next step up for 6cyk are 24lbs blue but that isn't what you're after. Stock m42 injectors are brown/orange and I believe are 19lbs. I think there is a difference between early m42 and later m42/44 injectors. You may need to run an adapter if you want the 6cyl injectors: https://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac...ors-p2454.aspx | | | 05-22-2017, 05:16 AM | #10 | Member Join Date: Jul 2015 Location: Santa Rosa, CA Posts: 62 | Quote: Originally Posted by ZEK Those appear to be green tops, which from part number are 18lbs. Either way, that might be the issue (i hope). i have some Ford 19# 4 pintles enroute. IF the noise persists the next guess is some type of valve train issue. | | | 07-14-2017, 07:22 AM | #11 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2017 Location: Denmark Posts: 1 | M42 Dbilas ITBs Good way to connect I havent done this its just a question but what would happen if you pointed the arrows on the pistons the wrong way?
