Default Dimensions

Hello, I guess I wont post to much background info of myself here, but I am new to the sight, have loved BMW's for a while, and have some automotive background. I Used to have an E30, and my younger brother has an e36 convertible. I have been searching for a suit a while now, and have narrowed it down to a 280z, e30, rx7 fc, and last but not least the 318ti. I say suit because I have a 1jzgte(sorry purists) sitting here in my shop just waiting for a body to jump in to. I am really hoping the dimensions under the hood are the same to a full size e36. After some searching, I see that m52 swaps are possible, so I know they make jz mounts for the e36, but how will it fit in the compact? Looks tight under there. I am really hoping this will work, but I need more info before I make the plunge. Tired of seeing 240s all the time, just like I am sure many of you are sick of hearing about 1js. I have the engine already, so I would like to give it a more than worthy body(ti), rather than a heavy sc300, or 240. The 280z's are hard to find without major rust, e30's have been done time and again, and the rx7 needs hood modification, and really is not as light as I hoped for. Any direction would be much appreciated.

The 318ti shares the same front end as an E36 sedan, so I would imagine the engine bay dimensions would be the same. Might be different from an E36 coupe though, not sure on that one.
