Default Kind of a backwards swap..

I'm going in what may seem a backward direction to some..

I have a 95ti that was wrecked.. Sandwiched between an SUV and a minivan sitting at a red light one day..

Anyway, I want to take the engine from the ti and put it in an E30.. I am planning to take the engine harness. and all and switch it to the E30.. It has ews and I want to swap as simply as I can..

Was the 95 ews the one I can cut a wire to bypass? (mfr date is 06/95)

The ti was an auto but I am gonna put it in with a 5 speed to simplify that portion of the swap..

What kind of things do I need to watch out for or do as this project unfolds?

I have done many E30 swaps just none with this engine setup...

any and all help is appreciated...

Steve

edit; I have ZF and getrag transmissions.. Which would be better to use ?
What flywheel will work ? M10? M20? M50?

m42club.com has several guys who have dropped late model M42's in in place of the earlier engines.

From what I've read the biggest deal is the oil pan, you need a E30 M42 oil pan the E36 wont work.

I haven't thought of that just yet....

Still concerned about wiring issues.. Can I keep the e36 harness if I wire it in?

Has anyone done this type of swap recently?

The issues you'll have are things like the stock E36 harness is mated to the instrument cluster. You'd have to work out all the wiring for that and make sure the computer and cluster are talking or transplant the E36 into the E30 (Sounds ugly) or just my a stand alone engine management computer and use the BMW engine harness from the E36 and hook it to the Motec or whatever your pick. (I'd use SDS)

You could RPM trigger the E36 manifold with a combination of the Throttle position and RPM. Most stand-a-lones have a couple outputs for this kind of thing...

The truly hot ticket would be ITB's with a M42 and a stand alone to make it all just work... LOL

Interesting project....

It is kinda a weird swap.. But the parts are available without me having to buy very much... Kinda a no brainer as far as that decision... I was going to try and keep the auto trans in it... This is a car my son drives typically just around town...

All the trans wiring is a total nightmare so I figure to put a zf trans in I have sitting here.. Just to save those wiring headaches....lol

The cluster seems to be the biggest issue... Actually the tach in particular...
