Default What's wrong with my transmission?????

What's wrong with my transmission????? help please...

When I drive for an hour or so from say San Jose to San Francisco, once I'm in the city with all the inclines and slopes and traffic, it becomes a little more challenging riding the clutch on first gear. Once traffic moves there are no issues with 2nd to 5th gear. (Is there anything wrong with my gearbox???)

In some cases I've seen this problem go away after an oil change (I know it doesn't make sense). Since it is an old engine, my mechanic suggested I change oil more frequently like maybe every 3.5 K as opposed to every 5 or 10 K.

It could also be the clutch although I didn't find any reason to change it based on my daily route in which 99% of the time I don't see any trouble with it.

Can you guys shoot me some possible problems I need to fix?...

Any advise is greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Ed

Your clutch is probably about to go; they generally do at around 150k no matter how easily the car is driven. Have your mechanic check it out...by the way, he gave you good advice about the oil change frequency. Good luck. John

It may simply be a problem with the engine/transmission mountings.
Try replacing the gearbox rubber moutings as they are fairly cheap and then check if there's any improvement. Also, since you will be under the car it is a good idea to have a look at the engine mountings and check if your engine has (I'm not sure) and anyspinning damper...usualy they leak thus failing to do their job.
