Default Gonna buy a 96 318ti!!!

First hello everyone as this is my first post and I am a noob to this forum and the 318ti.. I happened to find a 96 with 55,000 miles for $7700.. The color is silver and it has the M package from what i can see.. The only questions I really have is that this car came from Canada and thus the Dash reads in Kilometers instead of miles.. Other then that I was wondering if anything else was different from the american version? Oh also am I looking at a good deal for this car?

Here is a pic of what Im buying.. Thanks..

Thumbs up nice

talk em down to 7, or even 69. Tell em you'll need swap the cluster out. Remember, you are the buyer with $$, and they WANT to sell it...you have $, you have the pull.

Look under the car if possible for worn suspension, oil leaks, etc. Rust under the rear tails between the bumper and the metal (underneath)? Make sure the rear wheels are toed in -top view..../===\
not \===\ or /===/....you don't want to mess with a bent rear arm.

Clean Carfax? Title?

Looks good....5 speed though? Gotta have a 5sp.

From what i see, i quoted it on edmunds.com

came up $7,363

heres the link
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1996/bmw...tion=vdpresult

Tell them you quoted it and wont pay anything over 7, bring them down, it looks in great condition, but you should check for a bent rear arm, as the man above me has said

As far as Carfax goes well It's clean.. Had 6 reports but were from DMV crap from bringing the car from Canada and what not.. No accidents.. I checked the rear axle for leaks and It looked good.. I also looked under the hood and checked the general stuff for leaks and what not.. I also took it for a 30 minute spin.. During that time I threw it around abit in the rain yesturday and the suspension felt good.. No knocks or anything of that nature..

Good deal.. Well here is the issue with the price.. I currently own a 99 2dr Olds Alero (I know don't laugh).. Well I owe 3,000 on it which means I pretty much have negative equity.. The car has quite a few issue and well it has 162,000 on it.. The dealer is willing to give me $1,500 for the car.. If you look at kelly's blue book you'll notice that it's only worth a mere $800.. So with that In Mind I came up up with another $1500 for a down payment and he also lowered the price tag from $7999 to $7700.. Mind you I also live in CT (things cost more here) and according to kbb.com it's worth $7555..

if 55,000 is in miles, then it has really really great milage thats like only 5,000 miles a year average. If you want the 10 spoke rims instead of those have on now, ill sell em to you The 10 spoke rims are from the active ti's

It doesn't need park distance control, and hates decadence. It is musclepacked, yet lightly wound. It lets you feel the asphalt and get you going with the smallest touch of the pedal. It provokes, seduces, and demands to be driven hard. It looks, sounds, and smells like performance.

Nice, but I'd try to talk them down a bit. Try to go for $6,700. Might as well.

So you're getting about $700 for the Alero? Making the price of the ti down to 7K even, which is $555 under BlueBook, and $363 under Edmunds.

Try and knock it down an extra $200. Tell them you need a break on registration/tax. Or say that dealers usually throw in floor mats or something.

Ok guys let me make this a little easier..

99 Alero worth is $800

Dealer is giving me $1500

total savings for me is $700.00
_____________________________

96 Ti is worth $7555 in my area

he wanted $7999

I talked him down to $7700 even
_______________________________

Now factor in the trade and the savings of $700

That makes the car $7000 even
_______________________________

So just remember the dealer is taking a hit on my car that is barely running..

In my opinion, you are also looking at a fairly unique vehicle. Ti's are getting fewer and farther between as the years go by. Even for a ti, a ti with that package and with that low mileage is pretty sweet. I have never been one to quibble over a few hundred dollars for something in that price range that has such personal appeal.

Just want to thank everybody again for your responses.. I picked the car up on Saturday and already put 500 miles on it.. I really love this car already.. Before the Alero I had a VW Corrado G60.. To be honest I never wanted to go german again after blowing the motor in that car.. But I did some very foolish things with that VW (supercharger pulley upgrade for one.) The quality of this car is really a whole different world.. So thanks again and hear are a couple pics..
