My starter would sometimes sound like it didn’t engage and would take several key turns to start the car but ever since I put the Conforti chip in, I have noticed it hasn’t happened since. It maybe just a coincidence but it has to have been at least six months and it hasn’t happened again. Prior to putting the chip in it was doing it for years but the car would eventually start. I am just curious if the ECU chip has something to do with engaging the starter or did I accidentally fix the problem during the installation of the chip. Thanks __________________ 318ti, sport, hellrot, 05/95 Munich, Germany | | | 04-22-2007, 12:13 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Shediac, N.B. Did you ever find out what caused the sound? Does anybody know? Is this you are reffering to ? I think we are talking about the same thing but like I said since I put the Conforti chip in, it doesn't do it any more. This was once a daily thing. __________________ 318ti, sport, hellrot, 05/95 Munich, Germany | | | 04-27-2007, 02:35 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Cashville,TN Posts: 124 | Conforti chip doesnt have anything to do with the starter. My guess is the starter was going out which is why it made all those noises. Usually makes that noise when its cold, but now that its getting warmer it shouldnt do it. Sound close? __________________ Mmm.. | | | 04-27-2007, 04:00 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Thats the starter solenoid going out. Eventually it will only spin without engaging the starter at all. Would suck for someone with an auto to be stranded without a start, but manual shouldnt have too much trouble getting around that. MY starter did the same thing and i replaced the whole starter with a bosch unit. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 04-27-2007, 04:03 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Ft Lauderdale, Fl moving to Eastern PA in May of 2007 Posts: 326 | Quote: Originally Posted by scabzzzz Conforti chip doesnt have anything to do with the starter. Sound close? | I live in South Florida and I can't remember the last time it was below 70 degrees here. I am thinking maybe it was possibly the ground wire on the battery because I had to remove the battery box to get at the ECU. (????) I can't think any other factor that would have eliminated the behavior and I never laid my hands on the starter __________________ 318ti, sport, hellrot, 05/95 Munich, Germany | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
