Default What shift boot do we use?!? Manual swap

As the title states, I’m looking for a shift boot. It’s impossible to find with realoem, fcs...

Do we take the e30 shift boot? Do we take the z3 shift boot? I’m nearing the end of my manual swap and am looking for a boot but don’t want to spend $100 on a boot assy . I don’t have the shift boot frame or it would be easy, and I would just buy something cool from condor.

So long story short I need a boot and the lower plastic retainer. What retainer do I need?

I also have a 3D printer but not the skills to model one of my own. Does anyone have a retainer I can buy and get this thing 100% finished?

I don't know about the E30 boot.

In the world of E36 the ti boot is unique. I have a Z3 boot in my ti now and it's fine, just a little bit off. They look the same to the naked eye and a Z3 does fit fine and could be redone to look seamless. As stock there are small gaps in both forward corners, rest fits fine. Probably either would do in your situation...though I understand some people's standards are different than others.

I can have the sport one reproduced quite nicely for serious money (nearly $200) with the correct color red stitch.

There is a vendor on eBay selling boots for $11 shipped but the red is way off (I have one)

I don’t have an original blue stitch or gray stitch to match, but if someone wants an accurate replacement for restoration, get a hold of me.

You have to recycle the plastic inner piece for a precise fit. It is glued on the original but pulls out easily. Then any E36 boot can be used.

Jim, I’m not too concerned about originality or an amazing quality leather. I also can’t see myself spending $90 on a shift boot, so $200 is out of the question! lol I’m sure there is a market for that though. Honestly all I really need is 1 plastic lower retainer, and I can figure it out from there. For now I’ll go bootless

Just search the junkyards and watch part-outs here.

Once you have the bottom ring, you can get that $11 eBay boot. Leather is nice just the red stitch is the wrong color.
