Common problems are 02 sensors and loose gas cap. Find someone with a scan tool. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-16-2005, 12:36 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Kelowna BC Can. Light stays on but missing and stumbling stop if I gear down and exceed 3000 rpm. Emission related? Gas cap on tight so that's not it. Dealer is 75 miles from my home. Is it safe to drive or will I have to have it trucked to dealer? Bobrich | | | 01-16-2005, 08:36 AM | #7 | I miss my Ti....... :( Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 828 | Sensors... Your symptoms are kind of interesting. I would check the basics (spark plugs, fuel filter, and fuel injectors) then if that does not work take it to the dealer. It should be safe to drive, just keep an eye on all your gauges. -Chad | | | 01-16-2005, 09:22 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Colyumbia S.C. Posts: 101 | CEL may come on any drivetrain related problems not emissions only. BMW ecm's can monitor every sensor, wire, relay, activation, mixture and related control modules. there are well over 200 codes. I don't know where the believe that every time a cel comes on it is for a O2 sensor. | | | 01-16-2005, 10:17 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | All I say it is common for 02 sensors to cause a CEL. I would not replace one without confirming it. Even when my Peake says 02 sensor I let my mechanic confirm it. The only times my CEL gave me a fault was twice for 02 sensors and once for the MAF which corrected itself. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-17-2005, 12:15 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | bobrich where are you located? there might be a good independent shop around you, or perhaps even a ti.org or bimmerforum member with a scan tool to help you out. i would try the local cca chaper first, to locate both a good shop and somebody with a tool. it sounds like a problem with fuel delivery, either a fuel filter or even the pump. but, this is over the internet so what do i know? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | 15mm pad install problem | hotdog19d | Suspension | 11 | 04-29-2005 04:42 AM | |
