Default bmw to start adding turbos

a small article on the future of the 3er:

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=10400

is this considered a twin-turbo system? i had always kind of figured that normal tt's are used simultaneously, rather than to provide boost at different ranges. if somebody can correct or inform me i'd appreciate it.

(yes, i'm aware that bmw has long had turbos installed on diesel motors.)

No, I think that TT's are not used simultaneously. I think that the Supra TT (i know its not a BMW) used each turbo for different ranges throughout the RPMs. One was for low RPMs and the other was for higher RPMs.

Interesting. As far as the twin turbos are concerned, they can be sequintial (different sizes for different RPMS) like on the 3rd gen RX7 and Supras, or one turbo used for each bank of cylinders like on the 30ZXTT
