NO!! damn. that totall sucks. you just put in that MM motor not too long ago too. well if its fixable i have a new passenger door ready to be used i got a long time ago that i didnt end up needing. at least you're still walking on your two legs after the accident. you can always swap out the motor into another ti. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Frame damage, however, is not always an easy and/or cheap fix. If it's totalled, you might be able to talk the ins. company into paying you out to just below the total value and you picking up the balance, if it's the salvage title you're trying to stay away from. Good luck! | | | 12-28-2009, 09:03 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | Sorry to hear it - glad nobody hurt. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 12-28-2009, 09:14 PM | #9 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Ohhhh Marko... I loved your car man! Definitely one of the cleanest. Who cares if it's a salvaged title. Nobody will ever know and the only time it really matters is when you go to sell it. But with all of the money/time you have invested, you probably wouldn't sell it anyway. I vote fix it. It shouldn't cost more than 3 grand, that's nothing compared to the time and love you've invested already. Best of luck to ya, glad you're okay. | | | 12-29-2009, 12:12 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Jess is right- A salvage title really means nothing unless you're trying to sell it and even then, cars are given salvage titles for any number of reasons. My Camaro has a salvage title solely because it had some interior water damage and the ins. company discovered that redoing an entire leather interior, door panels, convertible top and headliner, and other interior parts that are next to impossible to find (it's a factory ASC conversion), was waaay more $$$ than just totalling it. | | | 12-29-2009, 01:41 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | sorry to hear that, at least it wasn't the front (expensive) end, if you can't repair it at least you still have the engine to swap into another ti | | | 12-29-2009, 04:48 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | thanks for the well wishes guys... yeah, the motor is fine! looked at it today while on the lift & even started it up. all good. no leaks of any kind & no signs of contact. front bumer got pulled out when I was sliding backwards over the snow covered highway median. Options, so far: 1 - geico pays for all reapairs & all is well... 2 - Geico deams it total loss (if frame is bent) & pays me car value of about 3K + I part out the rest for about 5K (MM motor + trany + lsd + inerior + Cali roof + wheels + whatever else) & I put a nice fat downpayment on a new Gti. 3 - Geico deams it total loss (if frame is bent) & pays me car value of about 3K + I save (again) for a while & redo the car on my own terms... 4- Geico deams it total loss (if frame is bent) & pays me car value of about 3K... i buy an E21 (which I always loved) & swap the MM motor + LSD + trany + CPU into it & have a kick ass E21. we'll see... to be continued, sadly... pics to follow. __________________ SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD!SOLD! The bright side is you didn't get hurt from the mishap. I hope insurance will pay for it and save the ti from being totalled. Hate to see our beloved 318ti go RIP one by one.
