Default I need OBD info for 97 318ti manual

I am in the process of trying to find a car to smog instead of my car so i can register it in Cali. i have a 97 car with a 95 engine,. In order for my smog guy to get me a pass, i need to plug in a car with the same readiness monitors as the car should have.

Please let me know what readiness monitors are applicable for a 97 318ti manual trans.

thanks in advance.

You mean besides the VIN number that the obdII puts out?

The OBDII interface is supposed to produce standard codes for every car as far as the ones the smog folks look at that's the point of OBDII. There are a block of numbers that should be identical between all makes.

They can really do that in CA sounds like a potentially huge fine to me!

If i put a car on the smog machine that has, for example, secondary air injection, or EGR, but the original car does not, this will flag the test to the state. I need to put a car on the machine with the same emissions equipment as a 97 318ti 5-speed. I would look at the emissions sticker under the hood, but it is missing. At this point, CA does not use VIN over OBD.

So to understand this.

You need someone to bring a 1997 318 to your smog guy to plug in as your car and then he will change the VIN info? or is it something different?

Are you looking to have a separate simulated 1997 DME in your car and fired up on the ODB-II port and ready to report back to the inspection computer that all is good?

Just trying to understand what you are looking for to sim the test

What i need is to know what readiness monitors are applicable for my car so i can put a different car on the machine with the same emissions equipment. It does not have to be another 318ti, it can be anything 4 cylinder with the same monitors. Yes, it is most likely illegal. Luckily I've "got a guy" that will help me if I can produce a car that works.

Basically, I need to know if -97 318ti 5speed federal emissions- came with EGR and/or Secondary Air Injection. All the other monitors are standard with every OBD2 car.

I have access to many cars where i work, just need to figure out which one wont get me caught. For example, If my car should have EGR and I plug in a non-EGR car to the state computer, they will investigate.

The more-legit way to pass smog would be to replace my OBD1 comp/injection/cats/o2s/ect with OBD2 parts from a 98 or newer M3, have it chipped to run on the 3.0L and get the paperwork from the state for swaping in a newer model year engine. This is something I will not be doing.
