Default Oil Filter Housing - Question/Advice

Good Morning – I’m looking to tap into the ‘ALL the EXPERTISE’ that resides within the 318ti community. I discovered a small oil leak recently and after reading all the blogs, I was positive that the leak was coming from the Oil Filter Housing and sure enough it’s the source of the leak. I picked up the gasket, the 2 O-Rings and the bush from BMW. My question is this:

The bush has a 2 small O-Rings wrapped around the top and bottom (see pic – highlights in red). Do I need to insert an additional O-Ring into the Oil Filter Housing or will the Bush with the 2 O-Rings suffice? Picture provided. Secondly, do I need to insert an O-Ring into the opening on the block that houses the Oil Filter Housing unit?

Thanks in advance for everyone’s help! Kudos to dave45056 who posted a DIY write-up on how to tackle this project! His write-up made this endeavor go incredibly well!

Orings don't work that way. Generally you never seal anything with a gasket-on-gasket configuration. The gaskets and orings were meant to mate up against a flat surface. So to answer your question, no, the gasket and 2 orings is all you need.

I have an oil leak and I'm pretty sure it's coming from there. How hard is this to do? To change the gaskets.

Hey Slow- not too difficult. If you know your way around the engine, it will be a breeze. My ill is that I'm a perfectionist and projects take longer than they should; however, I try to get things right the first-time so I don't have to go back and fix my mistakes a second time. Good Luck!

Once you get access to it it's as easy as changing your oil, and speaking of that ..you will be changing your oil in the process. Oil out, make your repairs, oil in.

I followed along with the PDF file today and got halfway finished with my oil leak fix. Tomorrow I'm going to clean the area some more (it was CAKED with crap!) I want to take my time on it and do it right so there will be no more oil leaking for sure! Have to change the oil too. I really hope this is a sure fix.
